Shine On Salute: Honoring Marine Veteran Jason Murray 🇺🇸
This month, we proudly recognize Jason Murray, a Sterling native whose courage and resilience continue to inspire everyone who meets him.

Jason enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps just four days after 9/11, shortly after turning 18. He deployed to Iraq as part of the ground forces patrolling Ramadi, one of the most dangerous regions of the war. While on patrol, Jason’s unit encountered an IED, and he was critically wounded — an injury that left him totally blind.

But Jason refused to let that moment define the rest of his life. Inspired by a Vietnam veteran who attended college using a tape recorder and a braille typewriter, Jason found a new purpose. He earned a degree in psychology and now works as a paraprofessional supporting at‑risk middle school students in the Palmer Ridge School District. His strength, compassion, and lived experience make him a powerful mentor.

Jason’s journey has always included his high school sweetheart, Kelsie. She traveled to Germany after his injury and stood by his side throughout his recovery. Today, they are married and raising three children — a 19‑year‑old son, a 16‑year‑old son, and a 10‑year‑old daughter.

Jason Murray is a hero in every sense of the word. His service, his sacrifice, and his commitment to helping others embody the spirit of the Shine On Salute sponsored by Shine On Automotive and 97.5 BOB-FM.
