Hey wasters! We hope your breaks are going smoothly! Vermont is passing a law hopefully by summer to make it illegal to throw away food to divert orgánica from landfills! Check it out!

It's now 2020, and in VT, that means the last phase of Act 148 has kicked in that bans food scraps from your trash can in favor of composting.

BEE the change you want to see in your community!

Join WMS and the Friends of Emerson Park THIS Friday from 4pm-6pm at Emerson Park to see a pop-up fence art installation, enjoy some outdoor yard games, and learn more about the Friends of Emerson Park's plans of revitalizing the park. All ages are encouraged to enjoy the park on this sunny Friday. Link to the event with more information can be found at the end of this post!

Thanks to the Friends of Emerson Park for involving Waste Management Society in your pop-up fence art installation at Emerson Park, which we collected over 1,000 bottles to create! Special thanks to Amanda Bittorf for designing the fence! (Peep WMS's current Co-Presidents, Lily Koss and Bailey Miller, having a blast at the art install day.)

Shredding your newspaper when you're done reading it creates great Easter grass!

Easter Reminder! Plastic Easter basket grass (left) lasts forever in the environment, often ending up in bird's nests and our waterways. Opt for the crinkled paper version (right). It eventually biodegrades and is much safer. Or even better, make your own re-purposed paper Easter grass so you can skip the plastic packaging all together!

Today we had ‘College Day’ for kids at the WEC; this event allows kids to explore possible career paths and opportunities at UWSP. Dr. Michitsch and our very own Co-president Bailey got to present on the careers and education for wastewater and solid waste. 🗑 ♻️ 🥘 💧
