As we start a new year, here's a few Facebook reminders:

1. Don't add people to groups without their permission, especially if it's for your business. Groups can be a good way to reach people, but if you don't ask first, you're essentially spamming them. Don't ruin relationships with your friends and potential customers - ASK FIRST.

2. You are never going to get money or prizes from Facebook, Apple, or any other big company via likes or shares. Those posts are annoying, may be trying to collect data (if your account has lax privacy settings), or are simply trying to boost their engagement numbers. Don't share them. If you're not sure, check Snopes.com to see if it's a legitimate offer.

3. Please remember Facebook means different things to different people. For some, it's a way to stay in touch with faraway friends, for stay at home moms it's a way to remain connected to the rest of the world, for others it's entertainment, and for some it's a business tool. Your way is not the only right way and there are many tools to make your Facebook experience more enjoyable -- hiding posts, unfollowing without unfriending, fixing your privacy settings, and more.
