NADIA UPDATE! (Chapter 1 was posted April 4, 2025 and Chapter 2 was posted April 9, 2025)
Here is Chapter 3—the end of Nadia's HSPC story, from Executive Director Sherri Galle-Teske.
Our hearts are full. Nadia has a home!!!
We anxiously waited for this day to arrive, and when it did we still weren't prepared for the joy and happiness that overflowed in shelter staff's hearts.
Let's go back--exactly 301 days. Nadia was an older kitten that came to the shelter in March of 2025. She could not walk—shot in her spine by a gun.
I remember the day—our Medical Team hurried to her side and performed many tests. X-rays were taken to assess the damage and calls made to doctors. Our Humane Officers were making their reports, and there were feelings of anger as to who could have done this to a kitten. Our Shelter Care crew were working on her new accommodations, figuring out how to make her comfortable in her kennel, adjusting the surroundings to make her injury bearable. It does take a "Village" to help a special needs pet. And the costs of it all.
Now it has come full circle—all the love, care, tenderness, prayers, and hard work has paid off. She has a HOME!
And thanks to our community members and her own "fan" club who cared about her. The people that came to see her and pet her and those that sent money and shed a tear for her in our lobby—it all matters. Thank all of you.
In the pictures you see Nadia with her new mom Candy and Nadia cozy sitting in a little bed. Nadia definitely knew something was going on today as she was in a new room meeting new people. She was vocal and found a cozy bed to lay in while she watched people talking about her and paperwork being signed. She knew something was different—something special was happening.
Then the caregivers all stopped by to say their "goodbyes". The Medical Team who saved her life and expressed her every four hours to maintain her health, the Shelter Care crew that cleaned her kennel, her s**t box, and made sure she ate her special food, the Animal Control officers that found her, protected her, and brought her to safety, the Adoption folks who never give up hope and work hard to find the right people. Then me—who will miss talking to her (she was across from my office). We all loved her and will not forget the lessons she has taught us of stamina and never giving up.
I'm so proud to be at HSPC, of all the staff here, and of all the things we do for animals like Nadia.
