Week 2 of the 2026 high school football season is in the books, with West Texas High, Sanford-Fritch and Borger all back on the field Friday night.

The West Texas High Comanches continue to roll. West Texas traveled to Shamrock and came away with a dominating 61-13 victory, improving to 2-0 on the season.

Quarterback Brady Layne had a huge night through the air, completing 14 of 25 passes for 337 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Cavender Dawson carried eight times for 112 yards and a touchdown, while C. Graves caught four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

After finishing the 2025 regular season 10-0, West Texas has now won 12 consecutive regular-season games dating back to last season. The Comanches return home Friday night for a matchup with Guymon, Oklahoma.

In Fritch, the Sanford-Fritch Eagles picked up their first victory of the season, defeating Clarendon 28-18. The teams were tied 6-6 at halftime before the Eagles took control in the second half. Sanford-Fritch outscored Clarendon 8-0 in the third quarter and added 14 points in the fourth to secure the victory.

The win moves Sanford-Fritch to 1-1, a big response after the Eagles came just one point short against River Road, 25-24, in the season opener.

Meanwhile, the Borger Bulldogs traveled to Dimmitt, where the Bobcats defeated Borger 53-28. Borger falls to 0-2, while Dimmitt improves to 2-0. The Bulldogs will look to turn things around when they face Randall next.

So after two weeks of football: West Texas is 2-0, Sanford-Fritch is 1-1, and Borger is 0-2.

West Texas continues its strong run, Sanford-Fritch gets into the win column, and Borger continues working toward its first victory of the season.

West Texas Climbs From No. 10 to No. 3, latest Max Preps poll.

STINNETT, Texas — The West Texas High Comanches are quickly gaining statewide attention after an impressive start to the 2026 high school football season.

West Texas has made a major move in the Class 2A Division II rankings, climbing from No. 10 to No. 3 following a 2-0 start to the season.

The Comanches opened the year with a 49-26 victory over Tulia before turning in an even more dominant performance in Week 2, defeating Shamrock 61-13.

Those two victories have extended one of the most impressive streaks in the program’s recent history. West Texas has now won 12 consecutive regular-season games, dating back to the beginning of the 2025 season.

The Comanches went a perfect 10-0 during the 2025 regular season and have picked up right where they left off with two victories to begin 2026. West Texas has not lost a regular-season football game since the 2024 season.

Several Comanches are also putting together impressive individual numbers through the first two weeks.

Sophomore running back Cavender Dawson has rushed for 369 yards, averaging 184.5 yards per game.

Junior Zach Bryant has been a major contributor on both sides of the football. Bryant has recorded 178 receiving yards and six touchdowns offensively while adding 36 tackles and an interception on defense. He is averaging 18 tackles per game.

Junior quarterback Brady Layne has accounted for 556 total yards, helping direct a West Texas offense that has scored 110 points through two games, an average of 55 points per contest.

Senior Karson Bauert has contributed 168 rushing yards, while junior defensive lineman Brysen Barker has recorded two sacks.

The combination of individual production and team success has helped push West Texas from No. 10 all the way to No. 3 in the Class 2A Division II rankings.

Now the Comanches turn their attention to another challenge.

West Texas will return to Comanche Field in Stinnett this Friday, Sept. 11, when the Comanches host the Guymon Tigers in a non-district matchup.

Guymon enters the game with a 1-1 record after opening the season with a 45-14 victory over Mooreland before falling to Ho**er, 32-12.

Sanford-Fritch Defeats Clarendon 28-18 for First Win of 2026

FRITCH, Texas — The Sanford-Fritch Eagles picked up their first victory of the 2026 season Friday night, defeating the Clarendon Broncos 28-18 at home.

Sanford-Fritch and Clarendon went to halftime tied at 6-6, but the Eagles took control after the break. Sanford-Fritch scored eight points in the third quarter and another 14 in the fourth, producing 22 second-half points. Clarendon answered with 12 points in the final period, but the Eagles held on for the 10-point victory.

The victory improves Sanford-Fritch to 1-1. The Eagles have scored 52 points through their first two games, following a 25-24 loss to River Road in the season opener and Friday’s 28-point performance against Clarendon.

Sanford-Fritch entered the season with several returning players expected to play important roles, including senior tight end Aidan Anderson. The Eagles are in their second season under head coach Brandon Bennett, after improving to 3-7 during Bennett’s first season in 2025.

Dimmitt Pulls Away From Borger, 53-28

DIMMITT, Texas — The Borger Bulldogs showed improvement offensively Friday night, but the Dimmitt Bobcats continued their strong start to the 2026 season, defeating Borger 53-28 in Week 2 action.

The Bulldogs found the end zone four times against Dimmitt after scoring 13 points in their season-opening loss to Hereford. The 28-point performance showed progress for Borger’s offense, but Dimmitt answered with 53 points to secure the non-district victory.

Borger also received production from its special teams. Senior Noah Ramos converted all four extra-point attempts, giving the Bulldogs a perfect night following their four touchdowns.

In the return game, Dyllon Yankee returned four kickoffs for 51 yards, while Bradley Garcia added two returns for 25 yards. D. Smith contributed a 15-yard return, Mason Gloria had an eight-yard return and K. Figer added three yards. Borger finished with 102 yards on nine kickoff returns.

Ramos also handled kickoff and punting duties, while C. Garcia contributed a 28-yard punt that was downed inside the 20.

Borger entered Week 2 with several offensive leaders established from its opener. Raul Rodriguez had rushed for 116 yards, while Yankee had scored two rushing touchdowns. Bradley Garcia led the Bulldogs with 35 receiving yards, and Yankee had also recorded 12 tackles. Gloria had an interception in the opener.

Friday’s loss drops Borger to 0-2, while Dimmitt moves to 2-0.

Layne Throws Five TDs as West Texas Rolls Past Shamrock, 61–13

SHAMROCK — The West Texas High Comanches continued their explosive start to the 2026 football season Friday night, piling up 573 yards of offense in a 61–13 road victory over the Shamrock Fighting Irish.

West Texas improved to 2–0 and has now scored 110 points through the first two games of the season.

Junior quarterback Brady Layne led the Comanche offense with a big night through the air. Layne completed 14 of 25 passes for 337 yards and five touchdowns with one interception.

The West Texas ground game added another 236 yards, giving the Comanches a balanced offensive attack.

Sophomore running back Cavender Dawson continued his strong start to the season. Dawson carried the ball just eight times but produced 112 yards and a touchdown, averaging 14 yards per carry.

Calan Graves provided one of the biggest receiving performances of the night, catching four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

West Texas was just as disruptive on the defensive side of the football.

The Comanches consistently pressured the Shamrock offense and finished the night with five sacks, helping hold the Fighting Irish to 13 points.

The victory comes one week after West Texas opened the season with a 49–26 win over Tulia at Comanche Field. Layne threw for 193 yards and four touchdowns in that contest, while Dawson rushed for 257 yards and two scores.

That gives Layne nine touchdown passes through the first two games of the season, while Dawson has already rushed for at least 100 yards in both contests.

West Texas has now outscored Tulia and Shamrock by a combined 110–39.

The Comanches will try to make it three straight when they return to Comanche Field in Stinnett Friday, Sept. 11, to host Guymon, Oklahoma.

Guymon enters the matchup 1–1 after falling to Ho**er, Oklahoma, 32–12.
