🥢 6 Essential Asian-Style Sauces You Can Make at Home
1️⃣ Soy Sauce Substitute
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups beef broth
4 tbsp balsamic vinegar
2 tsp molasses
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 pinch garlic powder
1 pinch white pepper
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes or until reduced by half.
Cool completely before storing.
2️⃣ Teriyaki Sauce
Ingredients:
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp light brown sugar, packed
1 tbsp honey
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp cold water (slurry)
Instructions:
Combine soy sauce, 1/4 cup water, sugar, honey, ginger, and garlic powder in a saucepan over medium heat.
Stir until sugar dissolves.
Whisk in the cornstarch slurry and stir constantly until thickened (1-2 minutes).
Remove from heat and cool.
3️⃣ Oyster Sauce
Ingredients:
1/2 cup liquid reserved from canned oysters
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp water (slurry)
Instructions:
Combine oyster liquid, soy sauce, and sugar in a small saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium heat.
Stir in the cornstarch slurry and whisk until thickened.
Remove from heat and cool.
4️⃣ Hoisin Sauce
Ingredients:
4 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp creamy peanut butter
1 tbsp honey
2 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp rice vinegar
1 clove garlic, minced
1 pinch black pepper
1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
Instructions:
Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
Whisk vigorously until the peanut butter is fully incorporated and the sauce is smooth.
5️⃣ Sweet Chili Sauce
Ingredients:
1/2 cup rice vinegar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp cold water (slurry)
Instructions:
Boil vinegar, 3/4 cup water, sugar, garlic, and red pepper flakes in a saucepan over medium-high heat.
Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes.
Whisk in the cornstarch slurry and simmer for 1 more minute until thickened.
Cool completely.
6️⃣ Peanut Sauce
Ingredients:
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp chili garlic sauce
1/2 tsp grated fresh ginger
2 to 4 tbsp warm water
Instructions:
Whisk peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, maple syrup, chili garlic sauce, and ginger in a bowl.
Add warm water one tablespoon at a time, whisking until the sauce reaches your desired thickness.
