A 38-year-old man from Los Banos was killed following a crash in Stanislaus County last week, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says on Friday at around 11:55 a.m., officers responded to Highway 4 at Milton Road near Oakdale for a crash.

Investigators say the Los Banos man was driving a Jeep Compass northbound on Milton Road at Highway 4, and either stopped or rolled through the posted stop sign without yielding to through traffic.

At the same time, CHP says a 2000 Ford pickup driven by a man from Hathaway Pines was westbound on Highway 4 and was approaching Milton Road. At the same time, a 67-year-old man from Brentwood was driving a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Highway 4, approaching Milton Road.

Officers say the Jeep Compass entered the intersection into the path of the other two vehicles, resulting in a crash.

The Jeep Compass was struck on both the driver and passenger

sides, killing the driver.

The identity of the driver killed was not officially released.

Start Smart driving education for teens and their parents. In an effort to prepare young drivers to drive responsibly, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is offering new driver education classes for newly licensed-teenage drivers (15-19). The newly licensed teenage driver and their parents/guardians are invited to attend and participate in a free 2 hour long Start Smart class hosted at the Los Banos CHP office. Start Smart, presented by the CHP, addresses such topics as the safe driving practices, the rules of the road, and new driver license requirements.

🚨 RECKLESS DRIVING & RACING — NO WINNERS 🚨

Recently, in the Central Valley, CHP -officers responded to a crash that was the result of reckless driving between a Corvette and a Mustang while racing on SR-99. The driver of this Corvette lost control, drove off the shoulder, and overturned several times, causing the driver to be ejected. The driver sustained major injuries. The driver of the Mustang continued driving to their residence in Manteca. CHP officers responded to the driver's Manteca address and arrested him.

This is a stark reminder that street racing is extremely dangerous. These dangerous behaviors put everyone at risk — drivers, passengers, and innocent bystanders.
Reckless driving isn’t just illegal — it’s deadly. At highway speeds, a single mistake can cause a chain reaction with tragic consequences. Racing belongs on the track, not on public roads.

On 8/11/2025, CHP Hollister-Gilroy Area located and made two separate enforcement stops on outstanding stolen and occupied vehicles. They recovered a Honda Sedan, and a GMC Savana utility van. The driver of the van was also found in possession of Crystal Methamphetamine. Both drivers were booked into County Jail and are no longer lurking in our community.
