Email us at [email protected]. Penobscot Bay Press is an independently owned community information services company based in Stonington. We also staff an office in downtown Blue Hill, which serves as our mailing center. Our periodical publications center on towns along Maine's coast, including three island towns. The total population of the towns served is about 11,000 year-round residents, with that nu

mber more than doubling in the summer tourist and visitor season. Island Ad-Vantages, based in Stonington, traces its history through weekly papers published on Deer Isle from 1882. The Weekly Packet, Blue Hill, was founded in 1960, and the Castine Patriot, Castine, in 1980. Nathaniel Barrows purchased the Ad-Vantages in 1968, The Packet in 1981, and the Patriot in 1990. In Nov. 2025, Penobscot Bay Press expanded to Bucksport, Orland, and Verona Island and relaunched Castine Patriot as River Observer. The company first started publishing books in 1977. We publish multiple books per year in sync with the summer season and winter holidays.
