🏁 CARS is back in theaters for one week only to celebrate its 20th Anniversary!
20 years ago, I went to the movies for the very first time. For my 5th birthday, my mom took my cousins and I to see Cars on the big screen. As a 5-year-old, I had never experienced something so grand in scale before. Now at 25, being witness to families bringing their kids here to watch the movie that first enlightened me to the theater experience, I felt good.
This movie is one of my all-time favorites. Favorites can come from how a film makes you feel, or if you have a memory that brings it all home. For me, Cars is one of those films. I was obsessed with it as a kid. I still have a majority of my diecast collection from childhood, even bringing one of my original Lightning McQueen toys to the theater with me as a memento.
The movie still holds up and is so beautiful to look at 20 years later, and with a surround sound environment, I even picked up on some things I never noticed before, such as background music and dialogue, and I even caught a visual gag I had never noticed in my hundreds of times seeing this movie, and it genuinely got a laugh out of me.
If you’re a fan of the first film, you owe it to yourself to catch it on the big screen this week, whether it be your first time seeing it this way, or you’re like me and watched it for the first time this way 20 years ago.
