Warren Buffett is stepping down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway after more than five decades leading the company he transformed into a $1 trillion conglomerate. Buffett, 96, will become chairman emeritus while his son, Howard Buffett, takes over as chairman. Greg Abel became CEO earlier this year. Buffett will remain a director and said he is confident in Berkshire Hathaway’s future leadership and culture under Abel and Howard Buffett.

Please plan ahead! The Surry County Treasurer’s Office will be closed to the public beginning Thursday, October 1, 2026.

The office will reopen to the public at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

Residents who need to conduct business with the Treasurer’s Office are encouraged to plan accordingly and take care of any time-sensitive matters prior to the closure.
