SNOWFALL FORECAST UPDATE: 1:30 PM 12/1/2025
Hello, Ohio! We know many are still angry about Saturday's snow (and lack thereof), and we understand the commentary and negativity. We are not the happiest bunch of people either. We hate being wrong just as much as the next person...however, just know we work hard. A LOT goes into a forecast. We encourage you to do some research and follow along with us to learn what you can!
Now - onward to the forecast! Overall, a much easier forecast in general since we have no 32-degree line rising north through the event. There is some concern for mixed precipitation with snow, sleet, and freezing rain further southeast into southern Ohio. Overall, we will see far more snow than anything else when it comes to types of precipitation.
IMPACTS: The Tuesday morning commute will be dicey for many. Snow falling overnight and during the commute, with even lower amounts, can make for a rough go of it. Plan ahead for extra travel time, school delays/closings, and overall a rough start to the day.
TIMING: A specific timing map will be out later (you all enjoy this!) so you can see when we expect snow to start in your area. For a general look, check out our app! It gives you hour-by-hour looks.
AMOUNTS: In general, good confidence exists for totals to range between 1 and 4 inches around Ohio. A few locally higher totals are possible in any banding of snow. We do think the mixed precipitation zone is very "conditional", and if it were to be colder, those spots could definitely see more than 2 inches of snow. Additionally, a few higher totals are possible with lake-effect enhancement later Tuesday in northeast Ohio, so perhaps a grand total of around 6 inches looks possible there.
WHY DIFFERENT THIS TIME: Models are in agreement on temperatures this go around. Saturday featured us being south of the low, but now we are north of it this time. We stay cold enough for mainly snow, making for an easier forecast.
ANY CONCERNS TO BOOM/BUST: This answer is always yes...always! Whether moisture is modelled as "too moist" or perhaps something goes awry that is not expected, we can see a "boom/bust" factor here. If a few mesoscale bands of snow set up just right, a few swaths of 4-5" of snow are possible anywhere in Ohio (outside of the snwbelt), and that's more of an "at most" scenario.
We do see a slight pocket of dry air at the onset, but we factored that in. So, on radar later at the start, if it shows snow and it is not snowing, do not panic. This is very common. Saturday, the dry air was far more "amped" than models showed. We have tried to explain radar issues on apps before, and many just flat out do not believe us. But, basically...snow is falling aloft, but the column has to be moist enough to reach the ground. Radar scans the area above the ground. So, if it is snowing aloft you see snow on radar. The other issue is that radars in apps are composite images (compilation) of images stacked together.
POSITIVES: The good news here as well...wind is much lighter. No issues for power outages and no concerns for 40mph gusts.

NEXT UPDATE ON TOTALS: Not expected unless conditions warrant a change.
