The red moon strikes again!

We were out in MT late this year, we didn’t get home until Oct 6th but we weren’t too worried about missing the whitetail opener back home in Iowa. Mostly because of the 90+ degree temps and knowing that the first red moon days of the month weren’t until the 9th-13th which coincidentally coincided with the first cool front of the month.

We spent the first 2 days getting blinds in and stands set for the winds that we expected and headed out for our first hunts of the year.

You gotta love it when a plan comes together! My first sit of the year ended with which could be my highest scoring net typical to date!

Tiffany also had her target buck in the field 2 different times during the past 5 days but both times stayed out of bow range until after shooting light.

We’re off to a good start this year, stayed tuned because I’m sure the best is yet to come! Good luck hunting everyone and stay safe out there!

Sorry so late on this everyone, it’s been a crazy busy year so far! MT was good to us again like normal but overall it was a really strange elk year. Blistering hot temps for most of the month and very sporadic elk movement made for a tough season.

We still saw some giants, and I managed to get an arrow in one as well, but overall the last month was very hot and cold. Just when things would start to heat up and we were seeing some big bulls getting fired up the next day would be close to zero bugles and very little movement. Who knows what goes on but that’s hunting, if you could always figure them out it wouldn’t be fun anymore, right?!

Tiffany also had a great hunt, she passed on some bulls early on that she would normally never pass on but considering it was early in the month, we figured it’d continue to get better as time went on and more bulls would show up. But, like I said, it was a strange year and that just never happened.

No matter how the hunt goes, we’re always together with the kids, the dogs and good friends so it’s always a successful hunt.

Big D is 2 for 2 to start out the season! His first sit of the year in Georgia went exactly like his first sit in Kentucky. A big, mature southern buck hits the ground! This buck was a target last year but we never got our eyes on him, this year he had a pretty bad limp and was a welcome sight to see just before dark. It’s been a wild ride to start the season and Lord willing, the train will keep rolling down the tracks!
