Having lots of good conversations with people in the booth at Iowa United Methodist Conference. Letting people know I would love to come to their church and tell the amazing story of the Peters sisters during worship, Sunday School, UMW, family night, or really just about anywhere.

It was such a delight to lead a Zeal book event at the Princeville Heritage Museum last Tuesday night. The Peters sisters and their 7 brothers and sisters were members of the Methodist Church in Princeville, Illinois and raised on a farm 6 miles east of town. The Museum staff were very helpful when we stopped there in the spring of 2010 as Nan was finishing up research on the book. One of the best small town museums I've ever set foot in.

Mary Peters spoke at the equivalent of United Methodist Women's Assembly in 1909. It was held in Washington, D.C. There she was selected to attend the World Missionary Conference of 1910 in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is considered by many as the beginning of the ecumenical movement. She returned to China via the Trans-Siberian railway. Because she had come to the U.S. from Shanghai to San Franscisco and spent the winter here in Adair County, Iowa, she thus made it all the way around the globe during that extended furlough. By placing a pin on Google Earth in every place she spoke during that trip I calculated she traveled at least 25,000 miles during that 19 months.

The display at UMW Assembly caught a lot of attention. Hung our kitchen TV from a framework of reclaimed lumber covered by reclaimed bamboo blinds. Showed the movie I made from Keynote presentation in a continuous loop.

A terrific day at UMW Assembly yesterday. Steady flow of book sales. Wonderful conversations. Great contacts with world leaders of UMW. Hillary is presenting keynote this morning (our Exhibitor badges didn't qualify us to get in :-( ). Heading back to the booth for afternoon and evening.

The research trip to San Diego in February did result in finding where Sarah and Mary are buried - Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, CA. It was an unknown until the trip. The only lead was a reference to "services" in a notice about Mary. The Asbury Methodist Church in San Diego where the sisters attended was closed in the 1970s. Found out it merged with Wesley.
