Military leaders from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, the United States and NATO’s supreme allied commander Europe met Tuesday and Wednesday in Washington, said Joseph Holstead, a spokesperson for the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Holstead’s statement said the military options are being presented to the countries’ national security advisers “for appropriate consideration in ongoing diplomatic efforts.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will host a conference call Thursday with the national security advisers of European countries expected to play a role in future security guarantees for Ukraine, a senior U.S. official said, speaking on condition of anonymity to outline a discussion that had not been publicly announced.

With more National Guard troops expected to be deployed in Washington as part of President Donald Trump’s law-enforcement crackdown, parts of the city have started to look like occupied territory.
