STRUCTURE FIRE – 1611 LABRADOR BLVD

Garden City, KS (September 17, 2025): At approximately 5:39 p.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, the Garden City Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a structure fire in the 1600 block of Labrador Boulevard.

Upon their arrival, fire department personnel identified a single-story residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from the back. Command assigned crews to an interior fire attack, ventilation, and search and rescue efforts. All occupants of the home were found to be safely evacuated prior to GCFD arrival and all operations were performed effectively.

Fire Investigator Andy Crittenden responded to the scene for investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental. No injuries were reported, and no damage estimates are known at this time.

American Red Cross was requested to respond and assist with the displaced family.

Recently, we've received reports and calls from individuals questioning the legitimacy of their online relationships. An online dating scam, or romance scam, occurs when a fraudster uses a fake online identity on dating apps or social media to build a romantic relationship, gain a victim's trust, and then manipulate them into sending money, revealing personal information for identity theft, or engaging in other financial crimes. Key red flags include love bombing, avoiding in-person meetings or video calls, asking for money for emergencies, and having a profile that looks too good to be true. To protect yourself, use reverse image searches on photos, report suspicious activity on dating apps, and avoid sending money to people you've only met online. Always feel free to contact law enforcement if you suspect you are victim of a fraud.

UPDATE: Ford County Landfill will remain closed to residential customers today (September 17th, 2025).
