In 2008, VFW won a long-fought victory with the passing of a GI Bill for the 21st Century, giving expanded educational benefits to America's active-duty service members, and members of the Guard and Reserves, fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000. Our goal is to provide an inviting place for our fans where they can freely discuss VFW and veterans’ issues. In order to do this, we have guidelines for content posted to our page. The VFW strives to avoid removing content or banning users. However, for the benefit of all fans, we must enforce the following guidelines. Comments or posts that contain one or more of the qualities listed below will be deleted. Users may be banned if they are deemed excessive or chronic repeat offenders. We do not tolerate:

SUFFOLK, VA- The Joe Bagley post family and friends gathered this evening for the annual Christmas Party. It truly was a merry evening. A story or two was shared followed by cheers of laughter. A wonderful soul graced the crowd with a personal holiday jingle. The children were running around and the sweets and treats were plentiful. Bellies were filled with a bountiful dinner and there were plenty of leftovers to share. When the raffle took place, one member was upgraded to a Bronze Membership, thanks for your loyalty. A few Veteran calendars and some beautiful Poinsettias plants 🪴 will grace a home. As bulbs were placed on the post Christmas tree by the attendees of the party, I knew it would be a night to remember. Merry Christmas to all; I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Enjoy the photographs.
