As a means to Bridge Generations in Leadership, Minister Ibrahim Sannoh Meets Former Youth Minister Alimamy A. Kamara
A remarkable moment of unity and continuity unfolded within Sierra Leone’s youth sector as the Minister of Youth Affairs, Min. Ibrahim Sannoh, met with Mr Alimamy A. Kamara, former Minister of Youth Affairs. The meeting symbolized a shared commitment to collaboration, peacebuilding, and youth empowerment that transcends political boundaries.
While on a tour to assess the UNCDF project with bike riders in Makeni, Minister Sannoh took time to pay a courtesy visit to Former Minister Alimamy A. Kamara. The visit reflected a spirit of humility and statesmanship, underscoring the minister’s belief that the progress of the youth sector requires both institutional continuity and intergenerational cooperation.
During their warm engagement, Minister Sannoh expressed profound appreciation for the leadership and foundation laid by Mr. Kamara during his tenure. He described the former minister’s stewardship as “well-intentioned and visionary,” noting that the youth sector continues to benefit from the structures and initiatives established in previous years.
Minister Sannoh appealed for continued partnership and open dialogue between past and present leadership in the ministry, emphasizing that the development of Sierra Leone’s young people must remain above partisan lines. He reaffirmed his ministry’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and collaboration among all stakeholders working to uplift the nation’s youth.
The discussion covered several pressing issues affecting young people, notably the urgent need to de-escalate political tensions and to strengthen joint efforts in combating the growing threat of harmful drugs that have plagued communities across the country. Both leaders acknowledged that substance abuse poses a national challenge requiring collective response, policy coordination, and community-based intervention.
In his response, the former Minister commended Minister Sannoh for his remarkable leadership, particularly his efforts to promote peace, unity, and national cohesion through youth engagement. He described Sannoh’s recent visit to young people at the APC Party office as a bold and symbolic step toward bridging political divides, a gesture he said reflected the true spirit of national service.
Mr. Kamara expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect and reaffirmed his readiness to collaborate with the Ministry in advancing the youth empowerment agenda. He emphasized that youth development is a shared national responsibility that requires continuity, partnership, and respect across political affiliations.
The meeting concluded on a hopeful note, with both ministers pledging to strengthen cooperation in the pursuit of a unified and empowered youth generation, one that values peace, productivity, and patriotism.
This encounter serves as a powerful message of inclusivity, showing that when leaders set aside political differences and work together for the greater good, the youth of Sierra Leone, and indeed the nation itself, stand to benefit the most.
