Wowzers, what an incredible response! Once again we're humbled at how many amazingly talented individuals applied for this year's internship. If only we had more people to run this with us, then we'd bring everyone onboard that needs this experience. We're going to officially close down the submissions for applicants so we can focus on who would benefit the most from this year's program. But a huge thank you to everyone who shared our posts and spread the word and took the time to apply. It's always so cool to meet new creatives!

The Kraken! We got old-school in the Howler Brothers film Bermuda Triangle Mutation and used a 7 inch toy to create the 30 foot tall sea beast, animating it through stop-motion. So and flexed their acting chops when I was filming them aboard a high-speed Donzi and pretended their Howler clothing was being snatched off them by a three-story behemoth. So here are a few clips of the beast before it got properly composited into the video footage (you can see the whole film on Howler Brothers page).

When Paper Brain was just starting as a full time animation studio in Houston, Texas many years ago, one of the goals on our "animation bucket list" was to make an animation for the show that was such a big part of our childhood, Sesame Street. Fast forward to 2025 and we can say that this year marks the tenth year Paper Brain has been making animated letter and number films for Sesame Street and the Sesame Workshop. We can't think of a better way to celebrate that than sharing our most recent number film, "Number 8 Space." Airing on the ninth episode titled "A Trip to the Moon," this animation follows eight astronauts on a number-filled voyage to the moon. The score was done by composer Gregory Pepper, and the confident voice over from Mission Control was done by Violet Ray. Lisa Ray fabricated many of the paper assets, and all the characters were made with real construction paper, then composited into 3D paper and cardboard environments using After Effects.

We got to talk about some fun stuff on this morning. How set me on a creative path, and how I’ve gotten to work with some rad + inspiring interns over the last few years ( , video of your working on Ned made its way into the cut!). , I did a quick paper stop-motion demonstration with the dog you made a paper template for. And of course my drip was 100% in all the footage.

A huge thanks to for filming and editing this segment with his creative magic, as well as and all the good people at GDH for being so cool as to make this segment a part of their show.

Behind the Scenes: Bringing Houston to Life with Paper Stop-Motion Animation

We had an incredible time collaborating with Visit Houston to "remix" their summer ad spots made by ELL Creative with our paper stop-motion animation stylings. From printing and hand-cutting each element to photographing one frame at a time, this process is all about celebrating handcrafted creativity and the spirit of togetherness here in Houston.
