I am asking everyone to read Dr. Boyce Watkins email.
The Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission is taking Judge Olu Stevens ( a Morehouse Man) to court for "misbehavior" because he dismissed an all white jury in doing a trial of a black man. We need more Black Judges to make a stance against such injustice. Judge OLU STEVENS needs to be commended instead probably losing his job.
I am asking everyone to write and call the Judicial Conduct Commission in Frankfort, Kentucky (Their phone number and address is below in Dr. Watkins email.). If they dismiss the judge, I am afraid that other black judges the will lose the heart to do the right thing. To many black men and black women have been found guilty on all white juries especially when there was no evidence of a crime.
Please make a stand, write and call let the Judicial Conduct Commission in Frankfort, Kentucky and let them know what injustice they are doing against Judge Olu Stevens.
Dr. Boyce Watkins email letter is below.
Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well.
You may remember me speaking out against the treatment of Judge Olu Stevens, a judge in Louisville, KY who had the courage to speak against the use of all-white juries to convict African American defendants.
This issue meant a great deal to me, since I've personally grown weary of seeing thousands of black men and women sent away to prison by people who are not from our communities. This form of persecution is no less painful than what the Jews experienced during World War II, as it has affected millions of families, and led to death, disease, mental illness and other forms of chaos in the African American community.
As a man who has had many of my own relatives harmed in prison, I thanked God that a man of privilege and power like Judge Stevens had the courage to do the right thing.
But as you know, doing the right thing often comes at a price. Since Judge Stevens took his stand against the use of all-white juries, he has been under constant attack by the very same system and officials who often expect to receive black votes at every election.
Rather than addressing the issue that Judge Stevens brought to the table, these (mostly white) officials have worked night and day to undermine him and sabotage the stellar reputation of this proud Morehouse man and his wife Raymonda, who is a physician.
The attacks on Judge Stevens and his family have been relentless and have come to a head this week. It was recently announced that Judge Stevens is going to be forced to appear before The Kentucky Judicial Conduct Commission for his "misbehavior."
On April 19th, Judge Stevens is set to appear before an all-white jury panel, where they will decide if they are going to suspend him from the bench. It's awfully ironic that a black man is being punished by an all-white jury for speaking out against all-white juries.
This is how things are done in Kentucky. This is how systematic racism works. This panel almost always finds the defendant guilty.
You can help Judge Stevens by doing the following. Please write and/or call the commission using the information below, to ensure that they are aware of how you feel about his matter. It will only take a second and can make a world of difference for the countless children who've been harmed by the mass incarceration epidemic that has served as a socially-engineered virus to ruin the black community.
Also, you will hear from me in the near future about activist activities planned for the area as well. Additionally, I will find out the details of Judge Stevens' legal defense fund in the event that you want to support this cause financially.
