The king and queen of my fish tank. Pearl Gourami. Finally found a male for my female. Although they’re young i shall watch for signs of aggression especially from the male because they can get very nippy during breeding. No signs of aggression but they do seem to have paired off. The first female I got was very shy at first. Took about a month for her to actually start to greet me. Now that she was acclimated I decided to find a male for her so hopefully they breed! Interesting fact, the way they breed is identical to betta fish where the male will produce a bubble nest. From there the female would be guided towards the bubble nest to be embraced by the male for the eggs to be fertilized. The male will place the fertilized eggs in the bubble nest and watch over it until the eggs hatch and the fry are free swimming.
Hopefully my experience with bettas since I managed to breed them before helps with this process. Now let’s also be clear, i’m not too worried about the fry surviving or not since they will be born in a community tank. I have plenty of hiding spaces for them and natural micro foods in the tank already. The way I see it, is if they survive they survive. If they get eaten by other fish then so be it. I’m trying to replicate a naturalistic environment so therefore “survival of the fittest” is important to me.
