Como-Pickton CISD held a grand opening for their CTE Building this afternoon, the Joe Tom Braden Career and Technical Education Center.

The new building will house not only agricultural science classes, but also classes for other CTE paths, including culinary arts and health sciences.

The CANHelp BTS 2026 Fair was a huge success! Almost 400 Hopkins County school students received backpacks filled with supplies for their grade level, but almost 90 more families were served through the late-registration feature enabled this year. Members of SS Kiwanis Club and volunteers from Miller Grove ISD helped registered families to pick up their backpacks

The Hopkins County Breast Cancer Support Group will meet on Monday, August 10, with guest speaker JaLynn Allen, LCSW. Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. in the Medical Plaza, 113 Airport Rd. Women who have had or have any kind of cancer are invited to join and bring a friend or loved one.

Here are some photos of the Cumby Trojans during football practice this morning.

The Trojans are entering their third season under Head Coach Ronnie Green, and will be looking to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. Last season, the Trojans went 6-4 overall and 5-1 in district play, securing the District 9-2A/D2 Championship. They were ultimately eliminated in the Bi-District round of the playoffs following a 40-6 loss to the Mart Panthers.

The Trojans have a road scrimmage against the Maud Cardinals Aug. 20. Their season opener is Aug. 28, when they travel to Big Sandy to take on the Big Sandy Wildcats.

Here are some photos of the Como-Pickton Eagles during football practice this morning.

The Eagles are entering their third season under Head Coach Jeremy Griffin, and will be looking to have another successful season in 2026. After making the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and recording their first winning season since 2017 last year, the Eagles are hungry for more success this year.

The Eagles have two upcoming scrimmages: a road tri-scrimmage between the Shelbyville Dragons and Waskom Wildcats Aug. 14, and a home scrimmage against the Union Grove Lions Aug. 20.

The Eagles' season opener is Aug. 28, when they travel to Quitman to take on the Quitman Bulldogs at Bud Moody Stadium.

Masonic rites were held by Columbia Lodge # 81 and Heroines of Jericho # 490 when a cornerstone was leveled at the new SSISD Rowena Johnson Elementary campus on July 25, 2026. The Grand Master and Masonic officials from other Lodges in NE Texas also attended the ceremony.
