The Summerville Town Council called a special meeting Thursday, Sept. 25, to review confidential information regarding potential offers for the town-owned property known as the Woodlands Tract.

The 30-acre site, located near the historic Woodlands Mansion, was purchased by the town in January 2020 for $6.5 million. At the time, then-Mayor Ricky Waring and council members stated that the acquisition was made to block a proposed luxury apartment development near the historic district and to resolve a 3.61-acre condemnation lawsuit over part of the property.

Summerville purchased the 30-acre Woodlands Tract in 2020 to prevent unwanted development near the historic mansion. The town council met Sept. 25 to review new purchase offers; no decisions were made.

Hart said people are sometimes surprised to hear the CTC does not just see children who are in trouble.

“CTC is for everyone,” she said. “When I say that, I mean it does not matter your race, it does not matter your income status, it doesn’t even matter what county you’re in, because if you can get to CTC, we will definitely provide services for you.”
