Wednesday's paper goes to 17,500 households in Dorchester County, both on the ground and by subscription, while the Friday edition is available by subscription for $32 per year ($38 out of county, $50 out of state). Gov. Henry McMaster presented Joshua Shumak with the award Thursday, July 10, at the Governor’s Office in Columbia. Shumak works to raise awareness about indigenous groups and connect them with resources. He is also vice chief and publicist for the Wassamasaw Tribe of Varnertown Indians.

"A Letter to Let Go" follows Lola, a student grappling with guilt and grief in the wake of her sister's death. The film explores themes of addiction, loss and sibling connections. The new owners, Page’s Okra Grill, are expected to take over the business on Aug. 4 and plan to reopen later that week. According to the post, the restaurant will continue operating under the Montreux Bar and Grill name for the time being.

After more than 16 years in business, Montreux Bar and Grill, a downtown Summerville staple known for live music, community events and local fare, has been sold.

“We’ve needed a bigger presence on this side of the Ashley River,” said Dorchester County Fire Chief Tres Atkinson. “We have a volunteer station on this side. We don’t have any paid staff this way.
