The first issue of Fire Apparatus Journal was published in June of 1984. What started out as a small black and white publication has become the best source in the fire service for color apparatus photography, as well as the most informative source for news of the country's biggest departments, and the latest apparatus trends throughout the entire country.

32 years ago, the January/February issue of Fire Apparatus Journal featured Albany NY's 1990 ALF Truck4 and LA City's Heavy Utility 27 built from a 1968 Crown. Dale Magee's Times Past article was all about Crown apparatus and Anthony Rzucidlo presented Ford Motor Company Plant Apparatus.

Rather then focus on one specific manufacture or apparatus model, this book traces the evolution of the tillered aerial in New York City from the first motorized tiller delivered in 1912 through the current in service units. Also included are the wide variety of tractors purchased through the years that were used to power older tillers. Many never before published photos.

Our new Rescue 1 apparatus is now IN SERVICE, ready to respond to our community's emergencies for many years to come. This new rig is a 2021 Pierce Walk-in Rescue and has seating for six rescue technicians. The apparatus has the full complement of rescue tools among many other new and exciting features.
Rescue 1 is dispatched in addition to other operations units to the City's most challenging responses that require special equipment and training. Rescue 1 responds out of Fire Station 14 in S**O area, and goes to structural collapses, trench/cave-in rescues, rope rescues, dive rescues, confined space rescue, heavy machinery and vehicle entrapment incidents, tunnel emergencies and other complex emergencies.

The new CBRNE unit went into service on Monday at Fire Station 3.
CBRNE stands for:
Chemical
Biological
Radiological
Nuclear
Explosive
This is a specialty unit that is a part of the LVFR Type 1 Hazmat Response Team. The 4 person crew consists of a Captain, Engineer, Paramedic and Firefighter. All 4 personnel working on the unit must also be certified as a Hazmat Tech.
This unit responds to fires and medical emergencies like all fire apparatus, but the CBRNE also works closely with the LVFR Bomb Squad and LVMPD ARMOR unit.
Three new pumps ready for training...21, 51 and 52, when in service every Engine Company will be assigned basically the same piece....amazing
