One of my favorite highlights of medical school so far 🙆🏾‍♀️

I had the pleasure of being invited to attend career day at the charter school where I taught these past 2 years. I reached out to students from (gotta love snma🥹) & three M4s gracefully accepted to come speak with students about their career path! My former scholars learned about anesthesia, neonatology, and emergency medicine as well as the timeline to residency. They had AMAZING questions to ask and showed such enthusiasm for exploring the field of medicine! I was so excited for them to see representation in these areas of medicine, which is one of my pillars as an aspiring doctor!
Also, so grateful for the staff and leadership for their continued support and encouragement 🫶🏽

First-gen medical student 🤩

Beyond excited to embark on this new but oh so long awaited journey✨ It took a village and countless prayers to get me here, but I’m beyond grateful for the privilege to not only honor those who paved the way for me to be here but establish my own legacy! Thank you, Jesus!

happy new month, but most importantly happy black history month!

Excited to share some of what I’ve been up to in the past year! Although I have had to endure (and still do) a fair share of stressful/overwhelming moments, the gratitude that I feel far exceeds them.

I can’t wait to meet my new classmates & really soak in that this is happening. Praise God.

I created this page to document my journey to and through medicine and this is feeling so full circle — I know I’m making my younger self so proud 🥰

T - 166 days 🥳 (in the meantime I will be in full enjoyment mode, no wahala!)

bonne année, 2023!

Goals have been determined, some are in motion, and others have been completed!
I am showing up more and more as the woman I have always aspired to be but I really want to become the woman God has created me to be; starting with my heart & mind being transformed.

Some of my biggest challenges to getting there include … (this list is non exhaustive)
- anxiety
- perfectionism
- fear
- not trusting Him & letting go of control enough
- trusting myself
- acknowledging my strengths & being proud of myself
- loving myself & others like Jesus
- abandonment & rejection
- receiving (especially love)

s/o to for the vulnerability inspo

The list could go on but I know there’s also plenty that I simply am not aware of. However, God heals and delivers holistically so I know I am in the best & safest hands. The most important thing is to start and stay consistent & faithfull ✨

What areas of yourself are you intent on working on this year? Let’s inspire each other ⬇️

That’s our door! 🎉 “poppin with respect”
My students picked the design and worked through several lunch blocks to put the door together! Super proud of them (even though it was super hard to keep it from being ripped off 😅)

cheers to 23 🎉—feeling so blessed & grateful!

words are simply not enough to express how excited and proud I am to announce that I will be attending the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in the fall of 2023! This school has been my top choice ever since I committed myself to seriously pursuing medicine. All my close friends know how much it means for me to stay home & my desire to practice in nj, so this is truly a dream come true.

I genuinely give God all the glory for this acceptance (I’ve fr cried so many times). First secondary I sent, first interview I received (2 weeks later!), and first acceptance. Everyone’s journey to medicine is different but I think most of us can relate in the joy we feel after all the hard work put in.

This is an honor I dedicate to my parents, my grandparents (especially my gma who even in her final days of life spoke this into fruition..rlly wish I could’ve seen her reaction), and everyone who has played a part in this accomplishment (like those never missing a chance to call me doctor when they see me 😭). Thank you. I won’t let you down ❤️

becoming an EMT 🚨

I decided to become an EMT in order to gain significant clinical experience and knowledge. I had just finished undergrad and knew it would probably be fun while making my application stronger.

The process included an interview with my local volunteer first aid squad and once accepted as a future member, I …
• signed up for an evening initial skills class that occurred 3x a week for ~2 months — we had several online modules to get through each week and we needed to pass a pre-test to remain in the class. In-person classes were meant for learning/practicing new skills and applying concepts from our modules. Our Saturday classes were 8 hrs where we were mostly being tested on the material from the previous week (this included a written test). As challenging as it was to get through, our cohort was amazing and we had fun times!
• did a 12-hr ER shift to gain exposure into emergency medicine and to wrap up the course
• studied ~1 month to take the NREMT (a standardized test to be certified)
• began riding weekly 12-hr shifts with the squad ~1 month later (once all paperwork was finalized)

Ever since then I have been able to see some pretty cool cases which keeps me in a constant state of learning! I plan on showcasing more of what I get to do and observe in future posts/stories!
DM or comment if you have any questions 🎉

Happy Teacher’s Appreciation Week!

"I am a 5-7th grade science teacher at Fairmount Heights Middle School and my favorite thing about this year has been building close bonds with scholars and seeing their holistic growth, especially those in my homeroom!"--Ms. Kendra Soh

Ms. Soh's favorite teacher quote: "Teaching is a work of heart."

Thank you, Ms. Soh, for all you do.

And thank you to all the awesome educators across the Great Oaks Legacy Charter School network. Together you make Great Oaks Legacy a great school.
