JMACH caught up with Thomas Long and his family on the red carpet at the NSMA in Los Angeles, and what started with classic Army vs. Marine Corps banter turned into an incredibly raw testimony.

For the first time ever, veterans were front and center at the NSMAs, with 60 of our brothers and sisters recognized for the impact they make every single day. But Thomas's most powerful message had nothing to do with the awards—it was his honesty about fighting his way out of the darkness, overcoming alcoholism, and rebuilding his life for his son.
