Holly S. Schmidt, 59, and Gary A. Schmidt, 60, were found dead in their Sycamore home on Tuesday, allegedly killed by their 35-year-old son, Kevin A. Schmidt.
Schmidt was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday. His Mother, Holly Schmidt had previously sought multiple orders of protection against Kevin, citing threats, violence, and fear for her family’s safety, including incidents involving a knife and threats to kill his father in May 2025.
An emergency order of protection, effective from May 19, 2025 to September 6, 2025, barred Kevin Schmidt from living at or contacting his parents.
Court filings show Kevin Schmidt had a history of mental illness, with hospitalizations between 2022 and 2024, and a record of domestic violence, including a guilty plea on September 10, 2025, for a December 2024 domestic battery incident against Holly Schmidt.
He was also under a separate protective order from another individual through 2027.
Authorities believe the Schmidts died from blunt force trauma, with autopsies scheduled for today.
