Just in time for Christmas 2013; I know this song has been done to death, but I wanted to try some dramatic version of it anyway. Merry Christmas, everyone--...

It started as a 3-song EP, then led to basic backing tracks for Hannah to perform a gig (while Heidi and I were on our first cruise!), and those tracks became the foundation for the rest of the album. And, many of the arrangements were *her* ideas...👍

A jazzy collection of Hannah's favorite songs, from 2011. Recorded at TBush Recording, and accompanied by myself, Jon Swerens on piano, Greg Purlee, Rick Ger...

Oh man—I never post here—let's resume! I just watched a Glenn Fricker vid (SprectreSoundStudios) on how to get huge drum room sounds by basically creating one from your tom sends and a convolution verb—then smashing it and EQ-ing to taste. Well guess what? Great minds and all...I've been doing this for years. I usually run my room mic, some overhead, and a bit of the bottom snare mic to a “SIR” loaded reverb buss, with a very small room loaded, and then EQ/compress. Here's the setup from a song off of the new Lovewar album—this works great, and a little bit goes a long way.

In July of 2016 I had the privilege of recording a new version of some old friends. A band called “Before The Fall” (which name of course is just packed full of all kinds of philosophical and theological nuance…but I digress…) came down all the way from South Bend to record a 4-song EP.

Just a few little old-school snippets: I'm currently recording some 'custom' songs for client where I'm the band, and today's song just called for basic cool guitar work, tones that I'd be done with once they were recorded--IOW, not counting on software amps or effects after the fact.

First, the classic throaty tone that an open-back cabinet gets, and mic'ed up with the rear 57 out of phase. They fed a stereo Aphex tube mic preamp.

Next, I broke out my old Melody Maker for a rhythm track--it sat just right in the mix. Used a cabinet in my "isolation barn" with a 57 and an ADK on a 12" speaker.

And finally, a real cool combination of pedals/Les Paul/old Marshall/MXL Ribbon mic. I had both delays on with a very slight goose from the overdrive.

Fun stuff!

About a year ago, I got a call from a guy named Mike Rude, and he wanted to record a song that he had written for his daughter’s upcoming wedding. After figuring out an arrangement and instrumentation, it turned into a nice little dance-able tune, with a sort of classic 60′s, “Wrecking Crew” feel to…

I just finished the final mixes on a solo CD by Wende Roberts, entitled “Reflections”, which will also be used as a performance CD for her to sing in various venues. It’s one of those “Tim is the band” projects, where I am in the position of arranger, musician, and chief bottle-washer. Of the 10 son…
