HEADS UP! An old phone scam is making the rounds again - fake cartel kidnapping calls demanding ransom. Scammers impersonate cartel members and claim they’ve kidnapped a loved one, using fear and urgency to pressure victims into acting fast.

Just last night, a local mother received a call from a blocked number. A voice - sounding like her daughter - cried out for help, followed by a man who claimed to have kidnapped the child and demanded money for her safe return. Thankfully, the mother was able to confirm her daughter was safe before sending any money.

If you receive a call like this:
☑️Stay calm - scammers rely on panic to cloud your judgment.
☑️Contact your loved one directly using a known number. If you can’t reach them, check with other family or friends.
☑️Protect your information - don't share personal details, agree to meet, or send money.
☑️Report the call to your local law enforcement immediately.

If you have questions or believe you are a victim of a scam caller, please contact the GCPD at (620) 276-1300.
