Hi all! If you remember in our final issue, we shared the story of Onondaga County Poet Laureate Georgia Popoff and her Voices in Verse project, which was just getting off the ground.

This Friday at Community Folk Art Center, you can see the culmination of that community poetry project meant to incorporate perspectives from people of all ages and identities to represent and engage Central New Yorkers.

📣Hello from the beyond!
We have some news we are very proud to share: We won First Place for Overall Magazine Excellence in the New York Press Association 2024 Better Newspaper Contest! 🥇

We submitted all six 2024 issues as a complete entry and we were judged for our content, design, photography and our advertising mix. We were competing against other magazines from all across New York state.

We won this award in 2022, but lost in ‘23 to a magazine on Long Island. We figured the competition would be fierce and did not expect to win this year.

To be recognized for how hard we worked and for a beautiful product that we are more than proud of, after the magazine has been shut down, is extremely bittersweet. 😢

Thank you to our subscribers and advertisers who helped support us and to our talented writers and photographers. Print is not dead.

Hey all! We miss you very much and we’ve had a bunch of new followers since the beginning of the year so we wanted to let you know that you can find us at .

With the closing of the print magazine, our roles have shifted and we’re putting our CNY-loving efforts into This is CNY (thisisCNY.com). On the website and social media channels you’ll see curated stories and original work by us and other writers in the same vein as the stories we told in the magazine.

A collaboration with and supported by several wonderful corporate and community partners, This is CNY tells the stories of CNY as we evolve and grow. We have aggressive pride in our region, and our efforts are for locals and people who may be considering moving to our area.

Explore an octagonal 1856 mansion and kick off your holiday spirit at the Wilcox Octagon House Museum in Camillus!

Today and tomorrow (Nov 16-17), from noon until 4 p.m. each day, all three floors of the house will be filled with decorations, holiday music and vendors selling their wares. Artisan jams and baked goods are the most popular items for sale.

Together with volunteers and local businesses, dozens of artificial wreaths and trees are decorated and placed throughout the house. Museum first vice president and 26-year chair of the event Joy Flood says that this year marks a record of 44 trees, wreaths, gift baskets, wall hangings and hand-sewn quilted items; during the weekend, visitors can enter raffles to win these decorations. The drawings take place on Sunday when the winners can take home their prizes.

Additionally, special visits populate the weekend. Santa will make an appearance on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. On Sunday afternoon, Maxwell Library will lead a story time for children, while local a ca****la singers roam the house from 2-3 p.m. singing Christmas carols and playing the historic 1888 organ. The festivities are free to attend.

Our subscribers have been notified so now we have the difficult job of sharing with everyone that our publisher has decided to end publication of Central New York Magazine. Our November/December issue, coming out in a little more than a week, will be our last. 😔

For nearly two decades, the magazine has been an award-winning platform for celebrating the vibrant spirit and remarkable stories of our region. We’ve shared the triumphs and talents of local businesses, explored the beauty of our landscapes and highlighted the diverse voices that make Central New York a special place. We hope that in our pages you found new things to do, people to follow and a sense of pride in our area.
