Saturday, September 19th at 3:20 PM on "Opera Encore", join us on WCNY Classic FM for a show Marie Lamb has done, thanks to a Facebook post that gave her the idea to honor one of the greatest singers in the history of the Met, Leonard Warren! With one of the most individual voices of the 20th century and a capacity for hard work, Warren went from being a car mechanic and helping in his dad's business to winning the Metropolitan Opera Auditions of the Air in 1938...and that was just the beginning! Although his career and life were sadly cut short when he was just 48, Warren is still fondly remembered for his big voice and bigger heart. We'll hear Warren in music of Giuseppe Verdi, including the complete Act III of "Rigoletto" from an NBC Symphony broadcast with Arturo Toscanini! There will also be music of Giacomo Puccini, as well as folk music with the Robert Shaw Chorale and "The Lord's Prayer". Other singers include Lawrence Tibbett, Giovanni Martinelli, Rose Bampton, Robert Nicholson, Eleanor Steber, Jan Peerce, Gertrude Ribla, Nicola Moscona, Nan Merriman, and Astrid Varnay.

It's still summer in the parlor, and Bill Knowlton invites everyone this Sunday, September 13th, for the Bluegrass Ramble, on both WCNY Classic FM and HD3 Community FM! Bill remembers the birth anniversary of the Father of Bluegrass Music, Bill Monroe, (b. 9/11/1911-d. 9/10/1996) without whom there would be no Bluegrass Ramble! Bill also mentions that there's plenty of bluegrass events to check out, even though the festival season is over. Bill salutes Uncle Dave Macon Days, and shares more from the Dry Branch Fire Squad CD "Live at the Newburyport Firehouse", recorded in November of 2002! And Bill has his own mix of bluegrass, newgrass, bluegrass gospel, and favorites from yesterday and today!

It's almost that time of year...Festa Italiana will be coming to downtown Syracuse from Friday, September 18th through Sunday, September 20th! Join Joey Nigro-Nilsen, Jim Battaglia, and Super-Producer John Nilsen for "Ciao!" this Sunday, September 13th on WCNY Classic FM and HD3 Community FM; they'll give you a head start on all the fun, food, music, and cultural activities that help to "celebrate the Italian in you", no matter what your background!
