Joey, Jim, and Super-Producer John invite you for "Ciao!" this Sunday, May 31st on WCNY Classic FM and HD3 Community FM!
Here's the word from Joey Nigro: "Lou Christie (photo) was born Lugee Alfredo Giovanni Sacco in a suburb of Pittsburgh in February, 1943, and passed away just last year. When we took over a long-running radio show, renaming it and changing its format, I wanted to make sure that we remembered and played some of the music of the Italian American rock/pop singers who dominated the music charts before the so-called "British Invasion." Most of them had to change their names, as was the case with Lou Christie, whose biggest hit, "Lightnin' Strikes", is in our playlist for this Sunday's edition of "Ciao!". What sets Lou Christie apart is not only that he co-wrote his hits, but that his early musical training was in classical music. He loved classical music, and with his nearly four-octave range was encouraged to become an opera singer, but chose pop stardom instead." Along with what you'll hear this Sunday, you can learn more about Lou Christie from this Facebook group:

And you'll hear lots of other Italian and Italian-American music, as always! You can hear "Ciao!" every Sunday at noon on WCNY Classic FM, with an encore broadcast at 5 PM on WCNY HD3 Community FM. Tune in on your HD radio to HD1 (Classic FM) or HD3 (Community FM) at 91.3 WCNY-FM Syracuse, 89.5 WUNY-FM Utica, or 90.9 WJNY-FM Watertown/Kingston. Or stream on wcny.org.
