The Lincoln District Food, Culture & Community Walk is Happening Tonight!

Step out tonight in the Lincoln District for a compact yet story-filled exploration of one of Tacoma's most vibrant and welcoming neighborhoods.

Tonight's walk will feature local artists, business owners, community advocates, and neighborhood leaders sharing their perspectives on the district's history, public art, cultural identity, and ongoing revitalization.

From murals and maker spaces to family-owned businesses and affordable housing, this compact walk is packed with meaningful stops and conversations.

Starting Location: Lincoln District (Corner of S Yakima Ave & S 39th St)

Time: 6–7:30 PM
Length: Approx. 0.3 miles

Registration is strongly encouraged

If you’ve been to the Tacoma Night Market, you’ve probably experienced the magic of community, art, and whimsy coming together. If you’re lucky, you may have also seen an artist and creativity coach standing near a wet canvas, offering you a brush and an invitation to make your mark on a community-created painting.

The person inviting you to participate in that painting is Lore Alexander.

They didn’t set out to be an artist. In fact, they were convinced they were simply not a so-called “creative” person.

Today, Alexander leads community art workshops, coaches others on creativity, and provides the freelance copyediting services that were the start of the whole adventure.

Our intended review location was not open quite yet, so we’re excited for a future visit to Tacoma’s newest brewery. Keep an eye on this space for that future tasting.

Today, we ended up at Peaks & Pints in Proctor to partake in their generally wide local fare. I pulled the Dry-Hopped Saison from Vice. Vice is a quasi-local favorite down in Vancouver, Washington, that just won Peaks & Pints’ Tournament of Beer, voted on by the beer connoisseurs who frequent Peaks & Pints.

The appearance comes out beautiful: straw-colored and not cloudy, but not easy to see through. Beautiful-looking white head on the rather large tulip glass.

Stack 571 delivers a family-friendly dining experience at Point Ruston without sacrificing flavor or personality.

Waterfront dining has never been something I rush to celebrate. Too often, those coveted views come with crowded patios, long waits, and menus that seem designed more for tourists than locals. There’s also something to be said for the charm of independently owned neighborhood spots that aren’t burdened by the overhead required to secure prime real estate along the water.

Still, every rule has its exceptions.

Whenever my family and I head to Point Ruston for a movie, there’s one stop that has become just as much a part of the outing as the film itself: Stack 571 Burger and Whiskey Bar.

Tacoma’s summer festival season looks a little different this year.

One of the city’s most recognizable multicultural celebrations won’t return. Several longtime festivals are marking milestone anniversaries. Neighborhood events are adapting to changing streetscapes and transit options. Meanwhile, newer celebrations continue to attract larger audiences and broader participation.

Yet if there is a common thread running through Tacoma’s 2026 festival calendar, organizers say it is community.

From cultural celebrations and neighborhood block parties to arts festivals and longtime traditions, Tacoma’s summer events continue to reflect a city that is growing, changing, and finding new ways to bring people together.
