From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 12, Heronswood Garden in Kingston will host its autumn sale, giving gardeners a chance to shop rare and unusual plants from specialty nurseries around the Pacific Northwest. The sale will feature food and craft vendors, while visitors can also explore the garden and take in Heronswood’s fall foliage.

In addition fall garden staples, the sale will also feature rare plants from specialty nurseries across the Pacific Northwest.

Get ready for some delicious fun at the Bremerton Blackberry Festival! From jams and sauces to ice cream and doughnuts, there’s a sweet treat for everyone to enjoy. Head to the Bremerton Boardwalk from September 5-7 for good food, incredible berry-themed goodies, and over 150 amazing vendors. Every bite helps support local scholarships and community programs—don’t miss out!

It was a beautiful day “at work” for the West Sound magazine team. We spent Aug. 19 exploring downtown Port Orchard and Bremerton with knowledgeable guides Sarah and Josh Johnson, who own and operate LoveKitsap, a tourism company that promotes the Kitsap area.

Award-winning band United By Music North America is scheduled to perform on Aug. 25 at the Summer Sounds season finale in Gig Harbor. The group will take the stage at 5 p.m. to open for Non Jovi. The band’s performance will be followed by the featured Summer Sounds band from 6-8 p.m. at Skansie Brothers Park in downtown Gig Harbor. Admission is free, and attendees are encouraged to bring a chair or a blanket.

Summer Sounds at Skansie is hosted by the city of Gig Harbor in partnership with Visit Gig Harbor and the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce.

The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for Western Washington as wildfire smoke is expected to move into the region, starting today. Air quality is predicted to worsen through Tuesday and Wednesday before improving later in the week. Until then, here are a few health precautions to keep in mind during the smoky period.

Before spending time outside, check the Air Quality Index and, when possible, reschedule outdoor activities for times when air quality has improved.
