Thank you Gnostic Keepers for your service today of the Holy Eucharist. I love the Sundays when there is no Feast to celebrate and Rev. David can talk about whatever he wants - and I can almost feel the twinkle in his eyes when he does! Today he talked about the Gospel of Thomas. In 1945 the Gnostic Gospels were found in Nag Hammadi in Egypt - Nag Hammadi is a city and markaz in Upper Egypt. It is located on the west bank of the Nile. These gospels were very different from the conical gospels and they were finally published in 1978. They are the only complete gospels found and the Gospels of Thomas is comprised only of the sayings of Jesus. There is no narrative or story, and no mention of his death.

One of the favorite sayings Rev. David presented in the Gospel of Thomas, is saying 42, Yeshua only says "Be passersby." It could mean “be an observer” towards life. What an important thought to carry with you this week.

“Don’t talk so much. You keep putting your foot in your mouth. Be sensible and turn off the flow. When a good man speaks, he is worth listening to but the words of fools are a dime a dozen.” ~Author Unknown

Have you ever encountered a person who is so full of themselves that whenever you interact with them it is always a one-sided conversation? This quote makes me chuckle as I can recall being taught to not interrupt people when they are speaking, to wait until they are finished with what they have to say. When you are a kid that is hard to do as it not easy to have patience. I think the ‘Talking Stick’ that the Native American people utilized is a wonderful tool to have and use both in meetings and at family gatherings. Peace seems to reign when people don’t talk over each other.

“Each of our lives is crafted by what we think. Our strongest thoughts usually attract a corresponding existence to us. The mind needs to be viewed as a muscle and we each need to develop our own tools to strengthen and focus it, to unfold the lives we really desire.” ~ Stephen Spears

This is a very powerful statement that not many of us truly appreciate unless we really think about how we make our choices and what outcomes may be as the results of those choices. Our mind is such an amazing tool and resource. That is why education and life experience is so important. We, if we are wise, will always be the student willing to explore, investigate, examine, question, and learn…learn to observe that which is around us, societal and political environments, biases, and so much more. Then our choices can be more empowering!

“Life is not the way it is supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you deal with it is what makes the difference.” ~ Virginia Satir

Virginia touched the lives of millions when she was alive and still does today. Her wisdoms were shared freely and she wasn’t afraid to call a spade, a spade. She gave empowerment to those who sought her counsel, never evading the truths of the realities people had to face on a daily basis. As a professional she also had a major impact on colleagues who today, still use her insights and words regarding the human conditions that plague us all at one time or another. Living in the moment, dealing with the now, is often referred to as mindfulness. We all have the choice to leverage a situation into a positive perspective or we can become the victim of same. It usually is a challenge to avoid the blame game but it can be done. We have that option or options to work with but it is up to us to recognize them, then apply the proper action to move past and forward to where we feel we should be. The game of life is ever present…are you ready to play?

“The person you are trying to be is probably not nearly as interesting as the person you are.” ~Author unknown

Each of us is so unique and special. My path has crossed the paths of many thousands of people and I am consistently amazed at their stories. Too often we are challenged to look at ourselves as a valuable commodity of talents, personality and potential. We will look at those in the public space of high visibility thinking they are so much more fortunate that we are, without realizing that one doesn’t need to be rich and famous to be loved and appreciated. Self-respect and self-appreciation are so important in our journey of life. When we give these two aspects to ourselves, we can recognize the giving of respect and appreciation to others we meet. This is how we become the Teacher and also, the Student of life. With this awareness you’ll find friends wherever you go and will be one of the richest persons on this planet.

"Angels not only exist if you just send out a call to a good angel to help with a problem, which you will no doubt state, the angel switchboard is said to get busy and summon the angel or angels you need to handle your particular problem.”
~ Linda Clark

I had to chuckle at Linda’s quote as I have so frequently been in touch with the customer service department of the Universe, they recognize my voice and put me on hold! For some reason it takes a long time for them to get back to me? Could my impatience have something to do with it? Seriously, we all are going to have challenges of one kind or another throughout our entire lives. That is a fact. It is also a fact that we are here to learn, to learn how to grow into bigger, better parts of ourselves that we all too often want to ignore. Someone once said, Life isn’t for sissies. I learned in my late teens it takes guts to face the challenges life presents you. Yes, guts. Don’t be afraid that you’ll make mistakes ( I guarantee you will), realize there are no magic wands passed out at birth and you’ll have to experience growing pains throughout your life. It is through those challenges you find out your strengths, your weaknesses, who your real friends are, … and what is even more special…miracles do happen.

“He who conceals his disease cannot expect to be cured.”
~ Ethiopian Proverb

Dis-ease…When you split the word in two it makes a significant difference. Why? Because at the base of just about every disease know to man is an emotional base. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? It isn’t. We human beings are complex. Our minds, emotions, can cover a huge range of descriptions, intensity, and form. This is why Hippocrates said every person has to be looked at individually, as circumstances can vary greatly, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. That is why to take care of oneself, to be aware of what is affecting us in various ways, and how on a subconscious level we can create physical realities that can cause us a great deal of pain and suffering we really don’t need. I know, as I myself went through a number of lessons earlier in life that brought that lesson of wisdom home to me. Don’t be afraid to seek help, to reach out for the assistance you need. You are not alone in your concerns and worries. Let the sunshine and fresh air of knowledge and understanding to fill your environment so you can remove the toxicity of fear.

“We wrestle in our present state with bonds we have forged ourselves – and call them Fate.” ~ Bhartrihari, Indian Philosopher

Bindings of the mind create havoc in our everyday lives. Letting go of what no longer serves us, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, is a huge challenge. There isn’t a person I have ever met that hasn’t had to deal with the breaking of those bonds, which frequently bind us up in our physical environments. Guilt, resentment, anger, fear, worry, and so much more in the mental, emotional spectrum can imprison us. Resolving those conflicts creates lessons that we can learn from, grow through, and eventually leave them behind in the garbage dumps of human experience. Remember, you are always a work in progress and when you become aware of yourself, those bonds will no longer bind you. You will be truly, the master of your fate…the captain of your soul.

“Courage is the willingness to be afraid and to act anyway.” ~ Stewart Emery

There isn’t a person alive who isn’t going to be challenged by one thing or another that terrifies them. I recall a situation when I was a teenager, when a neighborhood boy introduced me to his pet snake. One’s first response is … well, I won’t repeat what my first thought was. However, I had a second thought and I wasn’t going to let this boy feel he could scare me into screeching, A SNAKE! UGH! No…I took a deep breath and said (while my insides were trembling), What a beautiful snake. I can tell you he was deeply disappointed. However, to my amazement, when I petted the snake, I was truly impressed with this 4-foot-long creature that twisted itself about the lower section of my arm. What a learning experience that was. My fear totally disappeared. When we can truly face our fears, seeing them in their true presence, we become warriors of our own lives. Living with purpose, not apprehension.

“Destiny has more resources than the most imaginative composer of fiction.” ~ Frank Frankfort Moore, Author

If anyone had told me that I would be an international broadcaster, interviewing people from around the world…well, I would have not just laughed heartily at their statement, I would have thought they were a bit nuts. Someone just recently said, Wow Donna, look at your life and all of your experiences. You are amazing! My response was, Really? Why do you think that? I truly don’t think that my journey is an exceptional one. I have interviewed people from around the world and in my view, their lives have been exceptional. Destiny, the Universe, is totally amazing. I didn’t choreograph the twists and turns my life went through and I bet you feel the same way. However, somehow, we are directed into that space that is just right for us. We may not like the process of getting there, yet somehow it all works out if we pay attention. Don’t be afraid of the unknown. It may hold treasures for you that could never have been imagined.

"Any truth is better than make believe…rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” ~ Henry David Thoreau

In our world today, many of us are asking, How do you find out what the truth is? Who/what can you rely upon for real information? What direction do I follow? When I look at this Chinese symbol, I see two figures…one going in one direction to the left (a man moving forward wearing a hat), and the other to the right (a woman moving forward with her arms outspread), yet somehow there is balance. Henry lived through tumultuous times. He…just like us…labored diligently to find what that truth might be, regardless of appearances. To find the truth we must be willing to examine many different aspects, perspectives, then make the evaluation. I believe that is called critical thinking. Hm,m,m,m…I wonder why we ignore that so much? Perhaps that is a true companion to truth…what do you think?

It is not the strongest of the species hat survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” ~ Charles Darwin

I think Charles was right about this one. Change is always present and look at what we have evolved through with this Covid situation. The down side is the fear that has been promoted, creating a mental/emotional paralysis for so many. On the other side of the situation, we can observe how many people are instead responding with creative, innovative ideas, that are moving us forward in positive ways. This is occurring all over the world. Are you a builder/creator or are you fearful, terrified of what you perceive as the unknown? Study a bit of history and you’ll find this is nothing new in human experience. Our ancestors faced challenges that few of us today would be willing to copy with. Look at change as opportunity to open up to a greater part of yourself. You may be surprised at how resilient you really are.
