The NSU Center for Tribal Studies is committed to celebrating Indigenous identity, culture and community. This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, CTS will honor the resilience and contributions of Native nations while recognizing the voices that continue to shape the future. CTS will have their annual event starting at 2 p.m., Oct. 13 at Beta Field in Tahlequah.

The event will begin with Chunkey and Baskets, then a game of Cherokee Marbles at 3 p.m. and Stickball at 4 p.m. After the games, a special guest will speak for the IPD address at 5:30 p.m and dinner will be served. The Solidarity March from Beta Field will conclude the celebration and starts at 6:30 p.m.

The NSU Department of Music offers multiple degree options for music majors. Music education and musical arts being the most common choice by students. Those enrolled in the music program perform in major instrumental and vocal ensembles as part of their degree plan. There are opportunities for them to perform at other universities such as Southwestern Oklahoma State University. During their junior and senior years, students are required to sing or play an instrument in a recital to showcase what they’ve learned. Music auditions for program admission and ensemble scholarships are Feb. 20, March 7 and March 27, 2026.
