Your boredom might be worth paying attention to.
Most of us do not give ourselves much time to be quiet anymore. The second we feel bored, we usually reach for something to fill it, our phone, music, a show, a text, anything that keeps us from just sitting there.
And sometimes that really is not that deep. But other times, the silence starts bringing up things that noise has been helping us avoid. You realize you are more tired than you thought. You remember something God has been convicting you about. You feel the weight of a habit you keep making excuses for. You think about a conversation you need to have, a person you need to forgive, or a step of obedience you already know you are supposed to take.
So before you numb the boredom today, try sitting with it for a few minutes. Just be honest with Jesus and ask, “What am I avoiding, and what are You inviting me into?”
The quiet might not be empty, It might be where God gets your attention.
