Just five miles from downtown Tallahassee, Canopy's 500-acre master-planned community is evolving into a true mixed-use destination. There has been a growing conversation in Tallahassee about the state of our economy. With it comes lots of questions. Are we growing? Are we missing opportunities? Are we doing enough to encourage smart development?

Recently, Skip Foster of Red Tape Florida, shared his thoughts about where our economy stands and what should be done to improve those outcomes. While there’s room to debate his opinions, there are some key facts that need to be shared.

- Our economy is not growing as fast as other communities
- Permitting for new projects still takes too long
- Our population is growing slower than other similar communities
- There is a lack of economic development wins in recent years
- Crime remains stubbornly high
- Flights from our airport are too expensive and traffic has been flat for decades
- There is a need for stronger leadership that can yield better outcomes for the community and our economy

Known for its speedy drive-thru service, iced coffees, energy drinks, and breakfast favorites, the growing Florida coffee chain is expanding again in Tallahassee.
With so many commuters traveling through Apalachee Parkway and Blair Stone daily, this spot could quickly become a go-to morning stop on the east side of town.
