On Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7:25 p.m., the Florida State University (FSU) alerted the community through a campus safety notice email about a robbery that occurred near the Southern Scholarship Foundation Houses just west of the university’s Tallahassee campus.

A black male suspect, described as wearing a black t-shirt with a lion on the front and either black or dark camouflage pants, approached a victim on the stadium bike and pedestrian trail around 6 p.m. The suspect, armed with an airsoft gun, struck the victim with the weapon and forcefully took the victim’s electric scooter. He was last seen leaving the area on the stolen scooter, heading toward Hayden Road.

In September of this year, the Student Conduct Code was updated by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards at Florida State University (FSU). The changesmostly consisted of clarifying verbiage. Revisions were also made to expand the definition of discriminatory harassment to encompass all legally protected groups.

Updates to the Student Conduct Code come as FSU has also alerted students to changes to its Freedom of Speech and Expression (FoSE) website. In an email sent from the Division of Student Affairs on Aug. 14, students were reminded that “understanding the distinction between protected speech and unlawful behavior is necessary to uphold our community standards.”

Student organizations raised questions about these updates on social media. A Sept. 12 Instagram post from FSU College Democrats claimed that prohibited activities on the FoSE website could result in a new punishment of being trespassed from campus.

A weather delay and a major injury scare could not stop No. 7 Florida State football as they romped to a 66-10 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Doak S. Campbell Stadium, extending the Seminoles’ record to an undefeated 3-0.

The game against Kent State was very similar to FSU’s last blowout against East Texas A&M. The ’Noles dominated in all three phases from the moment redshirt junior running back Gavin Sawchuk opened the scoring to the end of the game.

Some moments threatened to throw the Garnet and Gold off their rhythm. Senior quarterback Tommy Castellanos suffered an injury on a routine 9-yard pass to sophomore receiver Lawayne McCoy late in the second quarter. His ankle appeared rolled up on the play, with Castellanos limping to the sideline.

Football season has kicked off at Florida State University (FSU). Amid the gameday fun, students have raised concerns regarding extreme heat, spectator safety and event safety around campus and at Doak Campbell Stadium.

With temperatures in Tallahassee reaching a high of 93°F during the game against East Texas A&M on Sept. 6, several students experienced heat injury symptoms such as high body temperature, flushed skin and loss of consciousness. Other symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke include rapid breathing, racing heart rate, headache and nausea. If not treated, heat related illnesses can lead to organ damage.

“During the game, I had to sit down because my vision was going spotty and I was feeling lightheaded,” psychology major Carolina Rodriguez said to the FSView. “I should have drank more water beforehand, but it was also very difficult to get water at the stadium due to the long lines and when we did, the waters weren’t cold.”

Located on the side of West Gaines Street is an unpretentious brewery that promises a night full of entertainment through delicious drinks, interactive games, live music or simply bonding with friends: Oyster City Brewing Company.

Having opened their Tallahassee location in 2022, Oyster City Brewing Co. is still a relatively new brewery and hangout spot for Tallahassee residents — but it has been making a name for itself since its opening at The Tap Room in Apalachicola, Fla. in 2012.

The classic Collegetown bars on Madison Avenue can often get a bit rowdy; Oyster City Brewing Co. has the upper hand in its calm and wholesome environment, frequently welcoming guests of all ages. Some common regulars are senior citizens.

At a news conference on Sept. 3, 2025, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced plans to “end all vaccine mandates” in Florida. The decision was endorsed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who framed it as a matter of medical freedom.

“People have a right to make their own decisions, informed decisions,” Ladapo said at the conference. “They don’t have the right to tell you what to put in your body. Take it away from them.”

In the same press conference, DeSantis established a Florida Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative, mirroring Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s MAHA efforts at the federal level. Florida is the first state to attempt to eliminate vaccine mandates.

On the evening of August 29, LGBTQ+ students flocked to Landis Green for the “Performative Masc Contest,” where contestants were placed in a line to compete for the title of “most performative” masc le***an. From “accidentally” dropping feminist literature to fishing with a Labubu, the humorous event provided camaraderie among the sapphic community at FSU.

After the impressive turnout, word began to spread about the need for another event — one for “evil femmes.” On Sept. 9, FSU’s q***r community gathered on Landis yet again to crown the most evil femme.

Like many contemporary LGBTQ+ terms, there is ever-growing discourse surrounding what makes someone a femme. Femmes are most consistently defined as sapphic individuals who present as feminine.

Many femmes have the shared experience of others assuming they are straight because of their appearance. However, being fond of the color pink does not make one less of a le***an, something the contestants of the “Evil Femme Le***an Competition” celebrated.
