📢 Educators, parents, caregivers, and early childhood service providers, this one’s for you!

Join us for EdCamp on Saturday, September 6th from 9 AM – 1 PM right here at the WFSU Station. 🎓✨

EdCamp is an “unconference” meaning you set the agenda! Participants choose and guide the conversations, creating deeper, peer-to-peer professional development that’s practical, collaborative, and inspiring. Whether you work in the classroom, support young learners at home, or provide early childhood services, you’ll leave with fresh ideas, new connections, and real-world strategies.

🔬🐝 Scientist Camp was full of discovery, creativity, and hands-on science fun!

As part of our Summer Challenge Family Engagement Camps, young scientists dove into the scientific method, learning how real scientists use it to solve everyday problems. Campers put their knowledge to the test by building bridges out of construction paper, printer paper, and foil—then stacking coins to see which held the most weight. They collected data, made observations, and shared their discoveries like true scientists!

We also welcomed our friends from , who introduced us to the world of environmental science. Campers learned how pollination works, why bees are vital to growing fruits and veggies, and even created their own buzzing bees out of popsicle sticks, markers, and pipe cleaners to simulate pollination in action! 🐝🌸

To wrap up, we dug into the past by learning about fossils, then made our own with play-dough and went on a mini fossil hunt, sketching what we found in our science notebooks.

We, all of us at WFSU Public Media, thank you for your on-going support of all that we do! Our education team will continue to be working in and around all the “neighborhoods” that we can! Our last set of camps happen Friday and again on Saturday next week. Our WFSU Summer Challenge wraps up the following week so get your points added up and get ready for the Pop-Up Shop!!

Our General Manager, David Mullins, shares this update:

“Thank you so much for your support of WFSU and in particular over the past few months as we have worked to protect public media’s federal funding.

Public broadcasting has received support from the federal government since the late 1960s. The passage of H.R.4 - Rescission Act of 2025 Thursday night eliminates federal funding for public broadcasting beginning in fiscal year 2026. For WFSU Public Media, coupled with the loss of state funding, this will result in a loss of approximately $2.8 million to WFSU's operating budget.

I know that is a big number! And while we are deeply disappointed by this funding loss, we are more committed than ever to our mission to provide our audience across the Big Bend and Panhandle region with trustworthy, independent journalism, entertainment, and educational programming and services.

WFSU is actively developing plans for this budget reduction. This includes developing and enhancing other sources of revenue to support services that the station has provided to the Tallahassee region and beyond for the past 60+ years.

The extent to which we can continue to do this is entirely in your hands.

If you value WFSU Public Media, please give a gift today.

Local support has always been the lifeblood of WFSU! And we greatly appreciate the support of our thousands of donors and dozens of businesses that support the station with donations and sponsorships, and the support of Florida State University.

What we face now is a new reality which will require a new level of sustained community investment. I believe this community will answer the call.

Thank you for being there for us during this critical moment so we can continue to be there for you.

Members can choose to support TV or radio programs. If you’d like to support both, please make separate donations.”

If you would like your donation to be for WFSUs Education & Engagement services, we are included under “TV”. Please share that your gift is because of education! We would love to know there is support for all of our Summer Challenge Initiative, events like Be My Neighbor Day & Owl-O-Ween plus so much more! We are here for you! Thank you and Ugga Mugga!

👩🏽‍🍳🍎 Chef Camp was cooking up creativity and healthy habits!
As part of our Summer Challenge Family Engagement Camps, we kicked things off by learning about food groups and how they help fuel our bodies. Campers made their very own chef hats using construction and tissue paper, then gathered around to read George Crum and the Saratoga Chip by Gaylia Taylor

A big thank you to our friends at the for teaching us how to build balanced meals and sharing their expertise on all things nutrition. Campers had the chance to taste unique fruits like dragon fruit, jicama, peaches, and plums, while learning about the vitamins and benefits each one offers.

To wrap up, the kids created fun commercials and posters to promote the unique fruit of their choice and took home a book, to continue the healthy fun at home, thanks to UF IFAS!

🍴👏 We’re so proud of our little chefs and everything they learned about health, nutrition, and creativity in the kitchen!

🌦️🌀 That’s a wrap on Weather Hunters and what a blast it was!

A huge thank you to our amazing partners at the for hosting and to for giving families the chance to step into the shoes of a real meteorologist! Kids enjoyed jumping in front of the green screen, exploring weather tools, and crafting their own pinwheels and cloud observers. Along with watching an exclusive episode of Weather Hunters, we also watched a Meet the Helper episode created by our friends . Thanks to for registering people to vote.

🎉Weather Hunters officially premieres on PBS KIDS September 8th, so mark your calendars and get ready for more weather adventures!
