The Tampa Bay Lightning and Vinik Sports Group have announced that Amalie Arena will soon be called Benchmark International Arena.

The new partnership includes a full rebrand with updated signage, a renamed premium club level, and over $3 million in community contributions.

Amalie Oil will remain a corporate partner, but after more than a decade, the arena’s name is changing — it’s going to feel strange calling it something new.

Tampa International Airport has opened its new $109 million Red Express Curbsides, adding a new building and eight lanes—four for Arrivals and four for Departures—on the Main Terminal’s north side.

Modeled after the award-winning Blue Express Curbsides from 2021, the Red Express lets travelers without checked bags skip ticketing and baggage claim. It will serve airlines on TPA’s Red Side, including Air Canada, Alaska, Avelo, Breeze, British Airways, Frontier, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, WestJet, and more.

The 65,000+ sq. ft. expansion includes a larger transfer level, a shuttle lobby for the future Airside D, and dynamic public art. The project completes Phase 2 of TPA’s Master Plan, with Phase 3—Airside D—set to open in 2028.

Free rides on the TECO Line Streetcar are sticking around through 2025. (For Now)

The Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) just voted 6-1 to cover the cost of keeping the streetcar fare-free, stepping in with local funding since a longtime $700K state grant is set to end.

To make it happen, three CRA districts chipped in:
• Ybor City: $234K
• Channel District: $233K
• Downtown: $233K

Ridership has been growing fast. Even with weather disruptions, over 1.3 million trips were taken in 2024 alone—up from just 300K back in 2018 before free rides were introduced.

It costs about $3.7 million a year to run the streetcar, and while this funding handles the short-term, the city is still working on a long-term plan to keep it going beyond 2025.

So… the Rays are backing out.

After months of hype and hopes, the Tampa Bay Rays announced they’re not moving forward with the $1.3 billion stadium and redevelopment deal that was supposed to keep the team in St. Pete and help heal old wounds in the city’s Black community.

Rays owner Stuart Sternberg said a mix of “unforeseen events” led to the decision, but the team still wants to stay in the Tampa Bay area — just not under this deal. He broke the news to St. Pete Mayor Ken Welch right before making it public.

Welch called it a major disappointment but not a surprise. He made it clear the city is still moving forward with redeveloping the Historic Gas Plant District — with or without baseball. That land means a lot to the Black community, and the city says it’s ready to honor those promises, regardless of what the Rays do next.

Meanwhile, MLB says it’s still committed to finding a permanent home for the team in the region. But unless something changes, the Rays could be looking for a new spot when their current deal at Tropicana Field ends in a few years.

Plenty of people are frustrated. Some say the city wasted time with a partner who wasn’t all in. Others are hopeful a better deal — and maybe even a new team owner — could be in the future.

What do you think — should the Rays stay in St. Pete, move to Tampa, or are you over it completely?

Tampa Police say 29-year-old Arvin Solimanpoor went full chaos mode early Wednesday morning after allegedly walking into Pink Pony Showgirls, setting it on fire, and firing off shots inside the empty building.

A firefighter was hurt while trying to control the blaze and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. According to witnesses, Solimanpoor was seen dragging brush into the fire before officers arrested him—handgun in hand.

But it didn’t stop there. While in custody at the TPD district office, police say he urinated in a water bottle and threw it at an officer.

He’s now facing several charges, including arson with injury, firing into a building, battery on a law enforcement officer, and more.

Tampa stays winning. For the second year in a row, was just ranked the #1 airport in North America by the Airports Council International. Out of all airports handling 15–25 million passengers, Tampa came out on top in the 2024 Airport Service Quality Awards—based on actual passenger surveys (so you know it’s real).

TPA scored high on everything from cleanliness to friendly staff—basically, all the things that make flying feel less like a chore. And this isn’t new—TPA has been holding it down for years now. This year, it even beat out Dallas Love Field by 0.17 points (small flex, but a flex nonetheless).

Let’s be honest— We’ve all landed at other airports expecting that same smooth TPA experience… only to be hit with chaos, confusing signs, and the emotional toll of finding your gate in a different zip code. Tampa really is built different. 💪

Starting today, KFC is bringing back its famous potato wedges—but only in the Tampa Bay area, and just for two weeks..

The wedges were pulled from the menu back in 2020 (yeah, rough timing), replaced by their new signature fries. And while the fries are cool, let’s be real—many folks never got over losing those thick, seasoned wedges. People even started petitions and online campaigns trying to bring them back.

This limited-time test run is happening exclusively at five Tampa-area locations, starting March 10. You can grab them in-restaurant, either as a side or à la carte—but heads up, they won’t be available through third-party delivery apps.

Here’s where you can get them:
• 1605 W. Kennedy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33606
• 770 34th St. N, St. Petersburg, FL 33713
• 4402 W. Gandy Blvd, Tampa, FL 33611
• 3105 Havendale Blvd, Auburndale, FL 33823
• 1492 N. Broadway Ave, Bartow, FL 33830

If the test goes well, there’s a chance we’ll see them return nationwide. , Tampa—this one’s in our hands. 😂😅
