Week 5 of the “Pulse of Colors” Program
From First Questions to Daily Passion: A Remarkable Transformation in Painting
In the fifth week of the Pulse of Colors program, organized by Voice of Chad for Media and Human Rights (VOC INC) for senior residents at Promise Pointe at Tampa Oaks in Temple Terrace, Florida, a clear and meaningful transformation is now visible among participants.
In the program’s early weeks, the questions were simple and foundational: “How do I mix these colors?”, “What should I paint?”, “Where do I even begin?” — natural questions for anyone taking their first steps into painting. Just five weeks later, the picture looks remarkably different.
Participants no longer ask how to start. They now know exactly what they want to paint, how to confidently mix colors, and where to begin each new piece. Without anyone planning it this way, the program has organically evolved into something resembling a structured art course, with participants showing visible, week-over-week progress.
What stands out most, however, isn’t just the growing skill — it’s what painting has come to mean in their daily lives. It is no longer a passing activity or a way to fill time; it has become part of their everyday routine, a weekly appointment they look forward to with genuine anticipation. Many participants are already talking about next week’s session before the current one even ends, arriving with ideas and sketches they’ve been thinking about all week.
This progress reflects the deeper purpose behind Pulse of Colors: not simply teaching art, but restoring a sense of vitality, belonging, and self-expression among older adults through a simple yet deeply meaningful creative outlet.
VOC INC continues to document this journey week by week, reaffirming its commitment to wellness and creative-expression programs that give seniors space to grow, create, and find joy.
