Welcome [back] to the digital airwaves, XCSB Cleveland!

On October 3, 2025, at 11:16 am, WCSB as we knew it ceased to exist — ripped from the airwaves due to a closed-door deal between Cleveland State University and Ideastream. Someone tuning in to 89.3 FM on their radio dial, expecting to have their mind blown at any moment by discovering their new favorite song, would now exclusively hear jazz of the most middle-of-the-road variety.

Jazz, like FM radio, was a distinctly American invention — one that, for a time, championed innovation and pushed the boundaries of the format, before later succumbing to mainstream America's capitalistic tendencies, repeatedly "streamlining" their art form until it was practically unrecognizable, devoid of passion and truly irrelevant.

There are still innovators and boundary pushers out there, though.

On October 3, 2025, at 11:16 am, WCSB as we knew it ceased to exist — but on March 1, 2026, at 11:16 am, XCSB starts a brand new journey, one built entirely on community, as well as the omnipresent belief that there's just so much cool music out there that it would be downright cruel not to share it.

It's official! Our weatherbot, Ryan, just called for a chance of snow in Tampa this evening between 10 and 11 pm. It's not a mistake: I personally just verified this with the National Weather Service. Which means... as the Station Wizard for SSCR Tampa, I (Jeff) am here to announce:

SSCR Tampa is forecasting a chance for snow tonight. In Tampa, Florida. Right on the shores of Tampa Bay... and this broken down van on the banks of the Hillsborough River. 😆

This isn't just a victory for NPR. It's a victory for independent media.

Hey punx, Jeff here. I'd like to take a moment to address our audience not as a private citizen, but as the owner of this tin can and digital string we call a radio station. When we made the decision to separate from our audio streaming partner earlier this year, we did so out of concern that said partner was moving to force us to "comply in advance" with content restrictions we felt-- and still feel-- are coming to the US media landscape.

This settlement comes on the heels of a status conference last month in which the federal court hearing the case brought forward by NPR "stated its view that NPR had 'made a very substantial showing' in support of its claim that 'CPB was motivated by a desire to show some compliance with' the Federal Defendants'* 'efforts to penalize NPR for its speech and for the content of its speech.'" What this means for SSCR Tampa and all other media outlets unwilling to bend to the demands of the Trump Administration is that there is evidence that the federal judiciary supports our view. And that view, succinctly put, is that a media corps acting independently of the federal government, and answering to no President or other federal official for its views, is a vital component of the safeguard of our Constitutional rights.

Tl;dr: Up the punx. We will not comply in advance, and the federal judiciary is telling us we need not comply in advance.
