It’s National Breastfeeding Month & World Breastfeeding Week.
With Leilany, breastfeeding was a tough journey. I had no idea what I was doing, went to several meetings with lactation consultants, ended up in the hospital with mastitis, found out she had a tongue tie that we decided not to correct, learned I had DMER and still somehow managed to breastfeed her as a “just enougher” for 8 solids months before choosing to combo feed her with formula.
With Elodie I did tons of research to make sure I was prepared this time and I am so proud of it! I am lucky enough to be producing way more than last time, handling my DMER much better this time around and I’m much more educated on how pumping schedules work, cluster feeding, and what let downs even are.
So for any mamas who needs any advice, tips, or just someone to lean on, I’m here to support you in any way I can! And in celebration of this week and month I saw this quote I wanted to share:
“Breastfeeding is beautiful, yes.
but no one really talks about how hard it is.
the cracked ni***es. the clogged ducts.
the mastitis that makes you want to scream.
it’s not easy. it’s not glamorous.
and it’s not always what you expected.
sometimes it’s nursing through pain because you don’t want to quit.
To the mama who’s cluster feeding through the night...
To the mama pumping at work while eating lunch with one hand and emailing with the other...
To the mama nursing in a public restroom because she’s still too scared of the stares...
To the mama combo feeding, donor milk feeding, exclusive pumping, triple feeding, dry nursing, SNS-ing, crying in her car because it shouldn’t be this hard...
Whether you breastfed for 2 years or 2 days, it matters. Your efforts counts. Your love is seen.”
