3 Things Every Videographer Should Always Practice on Set:
1. Move With Intention - Not Chaos
Every shot should have purpose. Walk in with a plan (shot list or mental map), and even your B-roll should follow a story flow: wide → medium → tight. Slow, controlled movements always outperform frantic handheld shots (unless intentionally going for that look). Oftentimes an initial walkthrough of the space you’re shooting is beneficial to help internalize your shooting flow.
2. Prioritize Audio
Good visuals are useless if the audio is trash.
Do a 10-second room tone check.
Monitor levels in your headphones.
Mic talent properly (even for “quick” talking heads).
Capture a backup audio source if possible.
3. Communicate Constantly With Your Team
The best videographers aren’t silent operators. They’re collaborators and good communicators.
Share framing with the client/talent.
Affirm deliverable needs before shooting.
Ask for a reset when something looks off, don’t accept it. Speak up!
Give small cues to keep talent comfortable.
At , we strive to be the best at what we do and prioritize all of the above and more. Everyday is an opportunity to get better.
