About year and a half ago I made a reel that poked fun at how Christians only put the cute, warm-and-fuzzy Bible verses on their coffee mugs by showing cheesy pictures of myself holding mugs marked with deeply UNinspiring verses. That reel went viral and I got hundreds of requests for the depressing mugs. Who knew there was a vast need for such a thing? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

Being one of the least business-y people on the planet and having sold NOTHING my entire life other than a few Bible study workbooks here and there, I decided I would absolutely NOT become a purveyor of delightfully discouraging drink-ware.

But cheered on by some really special people who just wouldn’t shut up about it (do you know any people like that? 😉) I went for it and OH MY GOODNESS - it was SO much fun! (Thanks to this AMAZING community.😘)

Today is a really exciting day around here because another Her God Speaks podcast teaching series is LIVE and ready to stream! 🙌🏻🎉💃

I have told people for years and years that the book of Isaiah is my favorite book of the Old Testament. It wasn’t until fairly recently that I realized what I actually meant was that I really love about 6 passages in the book of Isaiah. 😂You know, the ones that preach well at missions conferences and summer camps or that show up on Christmas cards and Hobby Lobby wall art and coffee mugs. (Can you even call yourself a Christian if you don’t have something with the “soaring on wings like eagles” verse printed on it? 😜)

Those passages are AMAZING, but here’s the thing - Isaiah contains 66 chapters and is rooted in a rich historical context that few of us are aware of. I’m ready to see it all, and I’m inviting you to join me!

It’s Resource Wednesday! Today’s resource was written by yours truly for the upcoming Her God Speaks podcast series on the book of Isaiah set to launch on January 28th. This 9-week companion study guide will walk you through the key passages in the book of Isaiah, helping you understand the historical context, major themes, GORGEOUS literary structure, and strategic placement in the overall storyline of the Bible.

Each week is divided into “layers” that you can tackle at your own speed: reading, observing, interpreting, and applying. I’m convinced the book of Isaiah has approximately 758,536 layers total - probably more - but working through this study guide and tuning into the podcast each week is a good start. 😉

It’s the very first Resource Wednesday of 2022 and I’m kicking things off with a fun one! 🙌🏻

A friend here on Instagram messaged me a few weeks ago about a new audio Bible app she had recently discovered called Streetlights. I downloaded the app, gave it a listen and was instantly hooked. These readings of the New Living Translation have an urban vibe and are set to original hip-hop inspired background music. Each passage is read as a carefully crafted spoken word brimming with artistry and masterful attention to detail.

For the first time ever I can play an audio Bible in the car and my twelve year old doesn’t sigh or roll his eyes. 😉

Streetlights has not recorded the entire Bible yet, so the library will continue to grow and change. The app has a teaching section that I have not spent any time exploring, so I can’t vouch for the content.

Hi, it’s Aprile here! 👋🏻 I prooooomise to get back to posting reels again soon! I know that’s why most of y’all are here and I’m more than ready to get those creative juices flowing again. 😉

But before I even knew Instagram reels existed I started a series-based Bible study podcast called Her God Speaks. We started with “SHE” which was (for me) a paradigm-shifting exploration of the worth of women in the storyline of the Bible. Then, we hung out in the Psalms for awhile beholding various attributes of God. 🤩

Those series were so great for so many reasons, but I’m ready to walk through a whole book of the Bible together! What do you say? I’m kind-of a “go big or go home” type AND I love seeing Jesus in the Old Testament, so why not tackle the book of Isaiah? Who’s with me?! 🙌🏻❤️

I’ve got a whole lot more to say about the Isaiah series that will launch on all major podcast platforms on January 27th. Stay tuned, friends! ☺️

First, let me issue an apology for neglecting this account. 🙈 I learned very quickly that until I’m able to hire someone to help with social media, I only have time for one platform. I’ll do better someday, promise! 😉

A few months ago I made an Instagram reel featuring verses Christians DON’T put on coffee mugs. The reel went viral and I soon realized there’s a HUGE demand for mugs with depressing verses. Who knew? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 I had some made for a small holiday pop-up shop. The “Meaningless” mug sold out super fast, but there’s a few of the others left!

We all have at least one woman in our life who would find these hilarious. You should definitely get her one. 😉 All proceeds go right back into the ministry of Her God Speaks which exists the help women hear, know and glorify God through Christ-centered engagement with the Bible and theology.
