Today, as Major James Capers Jr. receives the Medal of Honor, we honor an American hero whose story has been decades in the making.
Major Capers has lived the kind of life that sounds impossible until you understand the man, the Marine, and the spirit within him.
In Vietnam, during the 1967 battle at Phu Loc, Capers was wounded multiple times while leading his men through a fight most people would not have survived. But even then, his focus stayed on the Marines around him: calling in support, holding his team together, and refusing to leave them behind.
For decades, his story has carried through the people who knew it, told it, and refused to let it fade.
He would go on to serve 23 years in the Marine Corps, earning three Purple Hearts, the Silver Star, and two Bronze Stars. He became a Mighty 25 honoree, a symbol of courage to the military community, and now, nearly six decades later, he is receiving the nation’s highest military honor.
For MIC, We Are The Mighty, and Recurrent Military & Defense, this moment is personal.
Our team has had the privilege of helping share Major Capers’ story over the years. Today, we are proud to stand beside him, his family, his fellow Marines, and everyone who never stopped fighting for his legacy — helping show the world the full measure of his courage.
Major James Capers Jr., thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and the example you continue to set.
