Proof that you don’t need solid wood to create something worth stopping for πŸ‘€βœ¨

Found this cabinet at Goodwill for just $25 and immediately saw the potential hiding underneath the dated finish.

A little paint, a little creativity, and a lot of trust in the process later… this piece looks like something you’d find in a boutique home store instead of a thrift aisle πŸ’™

The color is Courtyard Blue by , and honestly, I don’t think it gets enough attention. It’s rich, timeless, and somehow works with just about any style.

To break up all the blue, I added a faux wood finish to the top and base for some warmth and contrast. That detail completely changed the look and made the piece feel much more custom.

The final touch was updating the hardware with gold gilding wax, which instantly elevated the whole cabinet without spending much money.

Best part? My $25 thrift store find sold for nearly $300 shortly after I finished it πŸ’Έ

Would you have painted this piece or kept the original finish? Tell me what you would’ve done in the comments πŸ‘‡

$40 Facebook Marketplace desk β†’ absolute showstopper 😀

The seller probably thought I was crazy for buying this thing. I thought it was the steal of the century. We were both right.

Here’s what this flip actually looked like from start to finish:

πŸͺ΅ Stripped the top and drawers first β€” skipping this step is how people burn through veneer and ruin a perfectly good piece. Patience saves the flip.

🎨 Paint wash to neutralize the orange β€” this desk had that classic heavy orange oak tone that dates it immediately. A light wash brought it way down without losing the wood texture underneath.

🌊 Water-based stain on top β€” once the orange was gone I wanted to bring some warmth back in a more controlled way. The stain gave it that rich walnut-adjacent look without going too dark.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Chalk paint in Spanish Moss on the body β€” that cool gray-green is doing so much heavy lifting here. It grounds the whole piece and gives it that moody old academia energy.

✨ Antique brass hardware to seal the deal β€” new pulls on an old piece is honestly the cheat code of furniture flipping. Transforms the whole vibe in about ten minutes.

Forty. Dollars. 🀌 I genuinely cannot believe what this thing turned into.

Tell me your best β€œI can’t believe someone let this go for that price” thrift score because I need to feel less unhinged about my Marketplace addiction πŸ˜‚

The absolute best kind of thrift lottery win πŸ₯ΉπŸ‘‡

I originally grabbed this dated cabinet from Goodwill for just $20, planning to do a quick flip and resell it on Facebook Marketplace. But funny enough, I’ve been staring at this empty nook next to our fireplace trying to figure out how to cozy it up and hide our TV box. I measured it on a whim and it was a perfect match. It was meant to be mine! πŸͺ΅βœ¨

To bring it into our home’s aesthetic, I had to completely change its vibe:

πŸͺš The Prep: I stripped away the old finish using my carbide scraper, then used acetone and a steel wire brush to clean out all those stubborn nooks and crannies my sander couldn’t reach.

πŸͺ΅ The Drama: To match two other flipped pieces in our home, I went in with a deep, rich gel stain ( in β€˜Coffee’). I know dark wood isn’t for everyone, but I absolutely love adding deep tones to a lighter room for that high-contrast, moody drama.

🎨 The Details: The original hardware was a cold sterling silver, so I swapped it for new antique brass pulls from Amazon. For the side brackets, I spray-painted them brown and layered on a warm gold gilding wax to completely match the new hardware.
It completely ties the whole room together and finally makes this corner feel finished and intentional.

πŸ’¬ Drop your thoughts belowβ€”are you team light and airy wood, or do you love the high-contrast drama of a dark stain? Let me know!

This empty corner on my deck has been bothering me for months. So I did what any reasonable person does β€” I built something. πŸͺšπŸŒΏ

A custom planter box from scratch and it cost me less than $30 in lumber. Here is exactly how I did it πŸ‘‡

πŸ”¨ Cut a 1x4 into eight pieces and joined them into L-shaped corner brackets using my pocket hole jig β€” these become your four corners

πŸͺ΅ Cut down 1x8s for the side and front slats and joined everything together with deck screws β€” at this point it is just adult Legos and I am not mad about it

βœ‚οΈ Used the leftover 1x4s to cut a top trim at a 45 degree miter edge, joined with pocket holes, and brad nailed it to the top β€” this detail alone takes it from basic to beautiful

🎨 Finished with a coffee stain and sealed with poly acrylic for that warm rich look that will hold up outside

🌸 Grabbed plants from my local home improvement store and kept them right in the pots they came in β€” they dropped straight into the box perfectly. No soil, no planting, no mess.

If yours do not fit just add a small bar across the center of the box and set the pots right on top.

Summer is almost here and this deck is READY. 🌞

Now I need to know β€” are you a buy it or build it person? Drop it below and let’s settle this once and for all πŸ‘‡

$12 at Goodwill and it had that classic orange stain that makes most people walk right past it 🍊 Those are always the ones I stop for.

But before we get into the flip β€” can we talk about coastal decor for a second? Because I’m so over the stark blue and white β€œFlorida fishing dock” look that everyone defaults to when they hear coastal. That’s not the only way. 🌊

To me real coastal is lighter washed woods, warm natural tones, soft accents with just enough depth to keep it from feeling flat. Timeless. Upscale. No anchors required. βš“

Here’s what I did to get there β€” acetone and a drill brush to melt away the old topcoat and that orange stain, sanded all the way down to 220 grit for a perfectly smooth base, applied a light paint wash with tan paint and water to neutralize any leftover orange undertones, then sealed everything in a polycrylic topcoat by for a clean durable finish. πŸͺ΅βœ¨

The result is what I think modern coastal actually looks like in 2025. Light wood, warm wash, no blue in sight β€” and it looks more expensive than anything you’d find in a beach house catalog.

Now I need to know β€” are you team classic blue coastal or are you with me on this more refined light wood approach? Drop it below πŸ‘‡

I almost walked past these Ethan Allen side tables β€” a matching pair for $40 total in incredible condition. They just needed someone to see past the dated finish and give them a second life. So I did. πŸ‘€

Here is how I got there πŸ‘‡

πŸ§ͺ Chemical stripped the tops down to bare wood and stained them with Spray Stain in Dark Walnut β€” the spray version is a game changer for beginners, super even finish every time

πŸ”² Added custom box molding to the drawer fronts with leftover trim β€” this one step alone completely transforms a piece

🎨 Painted the body in an all in one paint in the color Haven by β€” the most beautiful dusty blue grey you have ever seen and it pairs perfectly with that warm walnut

✨ Finished with antique brass hardware and wipe on polyurethane on the wood tops to seal everything in

$260 profit on a single thrift store find. This is exactly why I never walk past a good piece. πŸ’°

Sometimes the first color just isn’t it β€” and that is okay. πŸ˜…

This dresser came to me in solid condition but needed a full cosmetic refresh. We had a vision, picked a color, put it on, and immediately knew we needed to go back to the drawing board. No hard feelings β€” it happens to the best of us. πŸ˜‚
Round two was Boughs of Pine and everything clicked into place.

Here is what went into this flip πŸ‘‡

πŸͺ΅ Sanded down to bare wood and discovered veneer mid-process β€” pivoted to faux wood grain on the top and base
🎨 Color round one: not the one
βœ… Color round two: Boughs of Pine β€” deep, rich, and exactly what we pictured
✨ Built a brand new custom base and finished with antique brass hardware to tie it all together
Sometimes you have to get it wrong to get it right. πŸ™Œ

A $50 Facebook Marketplace find that had absolutely no business looking this good after. 🫢🏼

The bones on this coffee table were incredible β€” gorgeous rattan caning, glass panels, and solid construction β€” it just needed someone to see past the outdated finish and give it a second life. πŸͺ΅

Here’s what I did to get her there πŸ‘‡

🟒 Sanded down the top and bottom panels to raw wood and hit them with Gel Stain for that warm, natural wood tone

πŸ«’ Painted the body and legs in Dixie Belle Silk All-In-One in Hampton Olive β€” one of the most beautiful muted greens I have ever worked with, and yes, paint and topcoat in one so no extra steps needed

✨ The combo of that olive tone against the raw stained wood is something I did not expect to love this much β€” but here we are

This is exactly why I never walk past a piece with good bones. The shape, the caning, the glass β€” all of it was already there. It just needed the right colors to bring it to life.

Now tell me β€” what would YOU pay for this coffee table? Drop your number below πŸ‘‡

She was headed straight to the trash. I said not on my watch. πŸš«πŸ—‘οΈ

This buffet table came from a Facebook Marketplace listing where the owner told me β€” pick it up or it’s going in the landfill. I was there same day. No question. πŸ™Œ

Here’s where it got interesting though πŸ‘‡

πŸͺ΅ Got it home, started sanding, and sanded RIGHT through the veneer. I was devastated. Full pivot moment.

πŸ”² Shifted the plan to paint and added box molding to the door fronts to elevate the look β€” this step alone changes everything on a piece like this.

πŸ–ŒοΈ Primed it down and painted it in Silk All-In-One in Black Sands. If you haven’t used this line yet, it is INCREDIBLE for beginners β€” primer, paint and topcoat in one, amazing coverage, and so easy to work with. And despite the name? It dries the most gorgeous deep blue. Obsessed.

🌲 Used a faux wood graining technique on the base to bring back that solid wood look I accidentally sanded away. You genuinely cannot tell.

✨ Finished it off with oversized gold hardware and she is UNRECOGNIZABLE from where she started.

This is exactly why I refuse to let furniture go to the landfill. Every piece has a second life β€” sometimes you just have to find it. πŸ’›
