A Chinese company has developed what it calls a mosquito “air defense system”—a laser-based device that can kill up to 30 mosquitoes per second. It's called the Photon Matrix.
This prototype uses LiDAR and millimeter-wave radar to detect the flight pattern, size, and speed of nearby insects. When it identifies a mosquito, it triggers a low-powered laser to zap it mid-air. According to the makers, it takes about 3 milliseconds from detection to elimination.
The system is also designed with safety in mind. It automatically stops if it senses humans, pets, or fast-moving insects like bees or butterflies. The basic version covers a 3-meter radius, while the Pro model reaches up to 6 meters. It’s currently in crowdfunding and is expected to ship in late 2025.
