Stop expecting YOU out of other people.

That’s one of the hardest friendship lessons to learn.

Just because you would show up doesn’t mean they will.
Just because you would make the sacrifice doesn’t mean they can.
Just because you would drop everything doesn’t mean they have the ability to do the same.

And here’s the hard part…

That doesn’t always make them wrong.

Sometimes we’re disappointed because we’re measuring people against what we would have done.

💬 Have you learned to stop expecting you from other people?

Everybody says they’re family until life starts handing out assignments.
In Episode 6 of Cooley & The Gang: “Everybody Can’t Go,” we’re having a real conversation about what happens when life forces you to take inventory of the people around you.

What happens when tragedy strikes and the people you expected to show up… don’t?

Can a friendship simply run its course without anybody being the villain?

And when someone says “you changed,” is that an insult—or proof that you’ve grown?

We get into:

• Grief and major life events exposing your real circle
• Loyalty vs. expectations
• Friends who are there for a season vs. a lifetime
• Quietly demoting people without completely cutting them off
• Growing apart vs. being betrayed
• Male vs. female friendship dynamics
• Whether closure is actually owed
• Why some people struggle when they no longer have the same access to you
• Recognizing the people who did show up when life got difficult

Because everybody can’t go—and that doesn’t always mean somebody did something wrong. Sometimes people were meant for a season, while others are built for the journey.

Has a major life event ever made you completely rethink your circle?

😂 I’m standing on Matthew 18:20!

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name…”

We had WAY more than two or three gathered for The Altar & The Ache, so I don’t care what anybody on that panel says…

EPISODE 5 COUNTS AS CHURCH. 🤣⛪

Go ahead and put that checkmark beside my 2026 attendance.

If I can have a direct relationship with God… why am I talking to you? 👀

That question opened up a much bigger conversation about church, spiritual leadership, and what purpose the institution actually serves.

Is a church leader necessary for your relationship with God—or are they there to help guide a relationship you already have?

💬 Where do you stand?

Did spirituality get complicated when people got involved?

We all want something to believe in. But when human motives, influence, power and control enter the equation… does spirituality become something else?

This perspective from Episode 5: The Altar & The Ache definitely gave us something to talk about.

Agree? Disagree? Somewhere in the middle?

👇 We want to hear your perspective.

Can faith become transactional?

Do we sometimes approach God like:
“I’ve been good… now I deserve this.”

Or is faith something deeper than a transaction?
