The BunchQuitters are a trio of friends with over thirty years of musical adventures together. Individually, they are Susan Douglas Taylor, who sings, plays guitar, and writes much of the group’s material; her husband, Cary Taylor, who adds vocals and is always in demand for his wonderfully musical bass playing, and multi-instrumentalist Danny Harlow, who contributes vocals, mandolin, fiddle, and tenor guitar to the group’s arrangements.

The BunchQuitters were on the platform for the 2024 Michael Hearne’s Big Barn Dance. Their tight harmonies, down-home styling, and gracious stage presence delighted the crowds. In an intimate private performance at the Taos Inn in 2024, they drew an immediate and spontaneous crowd. We are delighted to welcome them back for two evenings in this special venue.

The BunchQuitters offer a wonderful collection of original and eclectic material drawn from their many years of playing together. Join them at the Historic Taos Inn on September 2 and 3. We think you’ll find much to like about this group of old friends—and the songs they love.

Rising star Josh Tafoya uses family-inherited weaving traditions to thread magic into the now

The brujas are out tonight. The witches circle the runway in Hotel Willa’s courtyard as the sun sets on 8/8, making way for full moon. It’s the opening reception for Taos’s up-and-up-and-up-and-coming weaver-designer Josh Tafoya’s first solo exhibition, "Woven," at the Gallery at Hotel Willa, showing through Oct. 31 in collaboration with The Paseo Project. The diverse crowd of over 100 people pulses with La Madre's Desert Water (mezcal sparkly drink) and DJ Oliver’s beats.

High desert garden abundance

Tucked away off a dirt road in El Prado is an oasis of color and life: SpiriTaos Garden. From the outside, the garden is almost hidden, but as you step through the front gate into a welcoming courtyard with water trickling through channels and into ponds, the beauty comes into view.

Right now, there is an explosion of pink, purple and yellow flowers cascading over walls and lining the pathways that wind throughout the acre-and-a-half site. Horticulturalist Dan Jones has lovingly created this garden over the last 13 years. It was grass pastureland when he purchased it in 2011.

Picuris Pueblo reopens storied museum

At an ancestral site in Picuris this week, sunlight shone on Braylon Quiver, a budding archaeologist and enrolled member of Picuris Pueblo, as they knelt beside a shallow pit in the earth.

Dust clung to Quiver’s hands as the 16-year-old searched beneath layers of rocks, roots and time for artifacts left by the tribe's ancestors.

“What stuck with me was it made me proud to be Picuris, because these are my ancestors — this is where they farmed, they lived and this is who they were,” they said. “As someone from Picuris, doing archeology in Picuris was really special for me because of the things we were finding, like the amount of pottery, tools and shells.”

Taos' Public Defender's Office celebrates 25 years

Up until the turn of the millennium, low-income criminal defendants across Taos County had few options to exercise their constitutional right to fair representation. The county relied on contract defense attorneys to take on cases, and there weren't very many here.
