The Plum boys soccer team is known for its strong play and success at its annual season-opening kickoff tournament.

The Mustangs’ two games Aug. 22-23 against Shaler and North Hills were no exception. They topped the Titans, 3-0, and then captured the tournament title by rolling past the Indians, 4-0.

Junior John Nonnenberg got Plum on the board last Friday against rival Franklin Regional with a 3-yard pass to Brandon Marston. He had three passing scores by halftime and finished the game throwing four TDs as the Mustangs rolled past the Panthers, 42-13, to snap a six-game losing streak to their neighbors.

Led by a productive defense that did more than prevent goals, the Mustangs girls soccer team ran their section winning streak to 28 with a 3-1 victory over rival Franklin Regional in a Section 4-3A game Monday night in cooler-than-usual temperatures at Mustang Stadium.

Plum opened the season doing what it does best: It won another section game.

Plum girls volleyball coach Rachel Satira likes her team’s chances to make its mark in and out of the section this season, and with a sizeable group of seniors and returning talent, the Mustangs hope to roar back into the playoff picture.
